Christopher . Cole cAPTA1N UsN Captain Christopher W. Cole is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David W. Cole of St. Petersburg, Florida. He attended the University of North Carolina on an NROTC scholarship. Following graduation in 1971 he was commissioned as an Ensign and reported to flight training. Upon designation as a Naval Aviator, Captain Cole was assigned to Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron FIFTEEN IHS-151. During his tour the squadron op- erated aboard USS GUAM ILPH 91 for the Sea Control Ship evaluation, USS INDEPENDENCE ICV 621, USS AMERICA LCV 661, and USS NIMITZ ICVN 681 on her maiden deployment to Northern Europe. In 1976, Captain Cole reported to Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron ONE IHS-11, serving as an instructor pilot and ASW Officer. In 1978, he was ordered to Canada for duty as an exchange pilot with HS-423 at Canadian Forces Base, Shearwater, Nova Scotia. There he served aboard three Canadian destroyers, and deployed to Northern Europe as detachment commander in HMCS ATHABASKAN IDDH 2821. Following a year at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, Captain Cole reported to Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron FIVE IHS-51 in 1982. During this tour the squadron deployed three times to the Mediterranean and once to Northern Europe aboard USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER ICVN 691. In 1984, he was ordered to Washington, D.C. for duty with the Chief of Naval Operations in the Air Antisubmarine Warfare Training Branch. In 1986, Captain Cole reported to Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron FOUR IHS-41 as the Executive Officer, and in Ianuary 1988 he assumed command. The squadron deployed twice to the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean aboard USS CARL VINSON ICVN 701 during his tour. Captain Cole reported to USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT ICVN 711 in 1989 as the Ship's Navigator, and deployed to the Persian Gulf for Operation Desert Storm in December 1990. From 1une 1991 to May 1992, Captain Cole commanded Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron ONE IHS-11. He reported as Commanding Officer of USS EL PASO CLKA 1171 in November 1992. Captain Cole's decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal 141, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation, Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expe- ditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, and Kuwait Liberation Medal. Captain Cole and his wife Kathleen reside in Chesapeake, Virginia, and are the always proud and sometimes exhausted parents of three daughters, Elizabeth, Emily, and Sarah. ..
