TRANSLANT Translant is short for transmitting the Atlantic ocean. EL PASO ' S Translant across to the Med took 13 days from More- lead City to the Straits of Gibraltar. The Bridge watch team, the Quartermasters, the ship ' s Navigator, and the Combat nformation Center (CIC) team are the stars on Translant. These are the individuals who determine the ship ' s course and speed. The bridge watch team also watches the seas to make sure EL PASO safely navigates the sometimes dangerous tlantic. Eight different sailors from First, Second and Third Divisions, a Quartermaster, an Officer of the Deck, a Junior Dfficer of the Deck, and a Conning Officer make up the watch teams. The watch teams rotate every 5 hours, so that each Derson has 5 hours on watch and 15 hours off. Training of the watchstanders is stressed during this long at-sea time, so ve have many drills and exercises. However, normal work does not stop, so sometimes the days never seem to end. This is the bridge watch team at work on the bridge. QM3 Emanuele and QMS Dorsey check the position of EL PASO against their navigational fix. 13
