His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit with gold stars in lieu of second and third awards, the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, Joint Service Commendation Medal with Combat HV and gold star in lieu of second award. Conklin was relieved by Captain Carl V. Lind Jr. as Commanding Officer of El Barco Magnificoi Captain Lind was born in Kane Pennsylvania and was raised in Danville Virginia. A 1961 graduate of Virginia Polytechnical Institute he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. ln January 1962 Captain training in September Q1333. Captain Lind has been stationed at numerous locations with air squadrons and aboard aircraft carriers. His most recent assignment wax aboard USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOVVEB QCVN-693 where he served as both Operations Officer and Navigator. An S-SA aviator Captain Lind is married to the former Miss Patricia A. Feldman of Danville. They reside in Virginia Beach with daughter Beth.
