The 1982 Comets got off to an even break with Non-Conference opponents, winning one and losing one. The next three weeks the Comets won three in a row and then slumped on the next three opponents, and finally won their last game for another winning season. This year s Seniors won 20 while losing 9 in their 3 years on the varsity. They will leave a void on next year steam that will be hard to fill. Their outstanding leadership and abilities made them an excellent team to coach, and my congratulations and best wishes to them as they start their college careers.

El Paso experienced its best overall season ever this year. The dual meet record was a fine 19-2, along with championships at the Gibson City, Mahomet, and Leroy tournaments. The District tournament was a close battle with El Paso losing by only V2 point; but eleven out of our twelve boys qualified for Sectional tournament. All boys placed in the top four at District, a first for any team in our District. Jeff Haas added the finishing touches to a fine season by qualifing for the State tournament. Jeff wrestled well, but was eliminated after the second round of competition. Tim Elyea placed fourth, just missing a State tournament opportunity.
Individually, three boys won 30 or more matches. Tim Elyea was30-7, Darwin Scheiber 31 -4, and Jeff Haas37-3. Five other boys distinguished themselves with 24 wins or more: Jeff Porth 24-7, Eddie Friend 24-10, Troy Dambold 24-15, Eric Charlett 27-5, and Tim Andrews 28-7.
The wrestlers would like to thank everyone who helped support them through the Wrestling season. Without all the support from everyone this excellent season couldn t have been possible.Id Ureslt
