Each individual contributed his share to make the team strong. It was a record-breaking year as well. Five school records were broken during the season. The 440 Relay Team consisting of Ron Ales, Murray Haas, Jim Hocker, and Mike Hankey tied the school record of 46.3. The Two-Mile relay, consisting of Haas, Doug Carley, Doug Dehority, and Dave Gieselman, set the school record with 9:51.0. Dennis Lay set the school records of High Jump 6'2 , Triple Jump 43' 4 1 2 , and the Pole Vault with all' 10 vault. The Comets traveled to the Delevan Relays, and placed 2nd out of 19 teams, missing the 1st place by only 2 points. Cold medal winners were Hocker in the high and low hurdles (also voted MVP of the meet), and the 440 Relay team of Dennis Ludwig, Haas, Hocker, and Hankey. The highlight of the season was the winning of the Mid-State Varsity Conference track meet, the first El Paso conference title in any sport in six years. Cold medal winners were Hankey in the 220; Lay in the Triple Jump; Hocker in the High Hurdles; the 440 Relay team of Ales. Haas, Hocker and Hankey. New Conference records were set by the 440 Relay team (46. 3) and Lay in the Triple jump (41 ). Jim Hocker and Dennis Lay shared MVP honors for the El Paso Comets this year. Congratulations to the 1976 Track Comets on a great season. I was proud to have been your coach. COACH JEFF STOLLBERG 54
