For four years we have been friends. Now you are going away. Precisely what you will do, where you will go, what high adventures will be yours, even you cannot say. But this much is true, and apprehensible: something of what you be- came here, you will remain. You may easily forget most of the facts you learned, and the theories, even the skills may escape you. But what you became here you must, in a very real sense, forever be. On that foundation you will build your house. Education evades concrete definition, it lives only in its evidence. I sincerely believe that the evidence of your lives will prove the value of your education here. But you will understand that I speak in terms of qualities and not things, there is no other you. WT? Here you will find cherished memories captured in ink and imprisoned on paper. As you turn the pages you will recall classes, games, and activities that you shared with your friends. I am grateful for the opportunity of sharing them with you, and to all of you I wish the best of luck! Wherever you are during the coming years, may you remember this year at E.U.H.S. with pleasure. J GERALD O. RISINGER, DIRECTOR OF ADULT EDUCATION Best wishes for the Class of 1942. Many of you will assume your share of the country's defense soon after graduation, whether it be in the armed services or in war production. One of the prin- cipal obiectives of adult education now is pro- duction for victory. To this end the greater por- tion of the program is directed, and many men and women are being trained under working conditions for early employment in war indus- tries. Graduates who desire to take this training will be welcome at the National Defense Train- ing office. FRANK J. MOUNTAIN, BUSINESS MANAGER Before this ink is dry, we shall be saying fare- well to one more class of graduates. When the last diploma has reached its owner, these former students will then realize that it was not a mis- take to call the ceremony marking their exit, Commencement, The whole world, a stormy one, lies before them. A serious lite now begins. What has already taken place-school history -is recorded here. Ambition, talent, achievement and enthusiasm are reflected from these pages. A bit more effort might have meant a better scholar, a faster race, or a larger score. But all of that is over now, except the pleasant mem- ories and lasting friendships, which extend be- yond these pages. Sincerely yours, Frank J. Mountain Al. AND COUNSELQRS I3
