Strike Up The Band A life of all 'play leads the Wildcat Band. Nearing the end of a complete and successful year, the band calendar has been a full one. As the activities pass in review first comes the reminder of the football games. Not only did the XN'ildcat musicians play and perform at all the games played in El Dorado, but they traveled to all sections of Arkansas to be first-hand witnesses at each Wild- cat victory. Each one of the games required a different stunt, and usually an afternoon parade. Soon after football seamn, tables were turned, and no longer a marching band, but a concert band was seen in the annual Christmas concert. El Dorado and the Wildcat Band were host to the South Arkansas band clinic. Fourteen Wildcat band members were selected for the All- State Clinic in Fayetteville. These musicians returned home vic- toriously with three of these making first place, and five placing second. Members of the band attended the first instrumental clinic for clarinets held in Camden. Also. the band has been repre- sented at each of the other clinics of this type. The band participated and received honors in the Magnolia marching clinic. The XVildcat Band was chosen the most out- standing band in parade. Participating in numerous drives the band has been active for civic organizations. The signal drum majors who led the band through this full year were Bobby Smith and Dick Goode. Their prancing major- ettes were Etta Sue Murphy, Mary jo Martin, jo Ann Newsom, Patsy Nash, Frances Smith, Helen jones. and Madolyn Rucks. May 7 was set aside for the Spring Music Festival. This was a combination concert with the high school chorus. The climax of this busy season was the animal band concert with the crowning of the Band Queen as the highlight of this event on May 17. The Wildcat Band is always on the go, and ready to go.
