in the gym.
Besides these, they have sponsored
the project of sending money to the
school in Beaugency, helped in the
Community- Clean-Up Campaign, and
amended the high school constitution.
The officers, of whom We are very
proud, are Jim Barber, Bill Johnson,
Dorthy Ann Smith, and Richard Thomp-

,TRACK
Come spring and warm weather, many boys are attracted to the track field.
This year was no exception as several score of senior high school boys participated in
track and field events.
The squad this year proved to be of better quality than the ones of years past.
l After winning several meets and placing high in another, they are expected to finish
with an exceptional record.
Not only in spring is the interest high. Each fall a number of boys turn out
to run on the cross-country team, which, last fall, placed third in the K. U. Cross Country
V Races.

This spring, as every spring, a number of boys turned out to participate in our
national sport. The baseball season was launched on March 30 with a defeat at the
hands of Winfield. Recovering rapidly, the Wildcats easily defeated Plainview and
went on to win a number of their remaining games. Jim McDonald, coaching both
the "A" and "B" squads, did his usual commendable job in pulling the boys over the
rough spots.

Here's that hardworking group of kids that perform at all our football and
basketball games, in assemblies, and at various civic events. The band made a fine
showing in the district music festival and the Band Regalement. This year's band
was outfitted with new red and black uniforms, and along with those eye catching
twirlers, was just about the best-looking and best-sounding group in the country.
One of the highlights of the year waas the annual band and orchestra banquet
where the instrumentalists of E. H. S. gathered to enjoy the usual good speeches, fine
food, and each other's company.
Hats off to Mr. Wallingford and this year's officers: Jetta Purcell, president:
Eleanor Shockley, vice-president, Bernice Daniel, secretary-treasurer.

Again this year the Wildcat Debaters
made an impressive record. They par?
ticipated in tournaments at Newton,
Hutchinson, Russell, Coffeyville, To-
peka, Southwestern and Wyandotte. lA
first place trophy was won at Newton.
They debated in the semi-finals at
Hutchinson, but lost on a draw for the
semi-finals at Russell and Topeka.
Moore, Bell, Barber and Houston won
second in the district and went on to
win fourth place in the State Debate
Tournament at Lawrence. Bill Moore
received the highest speaker rating in
the state at Lawrence.
We hope that next year's record will
be as fine as the one achieved this year
by Coach Shaffer and his debaters.
