Varsity Baseballers Hit Into Good Season Row 1: Wayne Reinneck, Bob Beuhler, Greg Barton, Jim Holecek, Les Fear, Rod Jackson, Russ Semanisin, Tim Gamble, David Holman, scorekeeper; Row 2: Coach Bill Funkhouser, Brad Gregor, Greg Kiaer, Dale Hartnagel, Jerry Logan, Darrell Wehrend, Steve Langendorf, Rob Harris, George Rezabek, statistician; Row 3: Assistant Coach Steve Moss, Bruce Klobnak, Mark Schaake, Bob Jones, Jeff Green, Andy Kovarik, Trainer Dick Hutton 1.) Jerry Logan, right handed pitcher, carried EHS in the Conference with a 6-1 record. He continued his winning record in District and Regional Championship games. He won All Conference, All Metro, All Southern Illinois, All State, All American and Fireman's Awards; and holds the school record for most wins in one season with an 11-2-1 record. 2.) Wayne Reinneck, outfielder and co-captain, was a power hitter for the team hitting .365 in Conference and .330 for the year. Wayne had the most hits for EHS in Conference and was second in RBI's. Varsity Squad Pitches Way Toward State The 1977 Baseball Team— - set the school record for most wins in one season with 22 wins; had overall record of 22-10-1; ranked second in Conference play with an 8-3-1 record; won District Championship over Granite South; won Regional Championship over Lebanon; won first game of Sectional at Springfield, but lost in Sectional finals - ranked 3 in the area, according to Metro papers. Brad Gregor, co-captain and catcher, led the team in RBI's in Conference play. His accurate arm brought him All Conference and honorable mention for All Metro. Rod Jackson, junior and designated hitter, led the team in RBI's and delivered many key hits throughout the season. Rod hit over .300 for the year and received All Metro honorable mention. 15 1.) Tennis Team Breaks Even In Their Racket Row 1: Greg Brunworth, Kevin Knoll, Pat Meyer, Tom Breihan, Tom Hilmer, Scott Bradley; Row 2: Coach Jerry Bradley, Scott French, Dan Hartman, Kevin McGinnis, Jim Buhr, David Phillips. On May 14 Districts were held. The Girls’ Track Team placed 1st out of 21 area teams by a total of 45 points. This is the first championship ever in girls’ track at EHS.
