— Freshman Day On September first the school year began at EHS for the freshmen and transfer students. The newcomers were officially greeted by Paul Riley, student council president, in a special assembly, and members of the student council were on hand to serve as guides for the new students. Student council member Jane Pulliam directs Sharon Hendricks, a transfer student, to her next class. Mr. Etzkorn distributes music folders to the freshman members of the concert band. Homecoming Homecoming festivities began on Thursday evening, October 22, with a gay parade followed by a spirited pep rally around the bonfire. On Friday afternoon, Mrs. Crocker’s first hour speech class, assisted by Miss Helm as “guest star,” previewed the clash between the Tigers and the Alton Red-birds. EHS “Beatniks” look on as Miss Helm performs in the homecoming skit. Master decorators from the Latin Club prepare their homecoming float. Paul Burrus escorts homecoming queen candidates Lavonne Poneta, Kay Funke, and Elaine Alberter in the homecoming parade. The fighting Tigers get a lesson in victory on the Math Club float. Susie Adams, Mary Garde, Mr. Lucco, and Mr. Day whoop it up in the homecoming skit. Page 19
