Industrial arts training serves both those boys preparing for an immediate vocation and those planning to continue their education. Mechanical and architectural drawing and electric shop, especially, are valuable to boys who intend to become engineers; woodworking and metalworking teach skilled craftsmanship of the types often displayed throughout the school. The scope of the homemaking department extends beyond preparation for the occupation of housewife. Home economics furnishes elementary training for dieticians, interior decorators, and fashion designers, and even the working girl or the college student will appreciate a general home economics course like family living. The day of the small, self-sufficient farm is over. Farming is specialized big business, and agriculture courses in schools are becoming an important means of instruction in the operation of a modern farm. Agriculture students learn not only agricultural and mechanical principles, but also farm and business management. Betty Beall helps fellow family-living student Carol Long finish a hem.  Art and Business Education While Sharon Nichols works intently, Mr. Freeland explains the mysteries of a comptometer to Ruth Niemietz and Sandy Popham. A world without beauty would be no world at all. The art department, which offers a two-year course, attempts to develop in students an appreciation of beauty and the ability to express human emotion through various media. An excellent testimonial to the high-quality training given by our business education department is the eagerness of many industries to hire EHS graduates for their office staffs. This department, well-equipped with modern business machines, teaches, in addition to vocational courses, personal typing and business law. Page 13 Miss Longhofer helps Ronnie Keek.
