EXECUTIVE OFFICER LCDR MARSHALL A. STOWELL Lieutenant Commander Marshall A. STOWELL was born on 2 July 1934 in Westerly, Rhode lsland. He attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. After graduating in August l.956 he sailed as Third Mate with Robin Line until entering the U.S. Navy as an Ensign in April of l957. Lieutenant Commander STOWELL's first assignment was aboard the USS HISSEM 'QDER-4107 where he served as Communications and CIC Officer. Subsequent assignments include the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School as a meteorology student, a tour aboard the USS ROGER QDD-8763 as Weapons and Operations Officer and an assignment at the U.S. Naval Academy as an instructor of meteorology, oceanography and navigation with additional duties as Assistant Director of the Planetarium. His next. tour was as Surface Op- erations Officer onthe Staff of Commander Cruiser-Destroyer Flotilla TWO. Prior to reporting to the EDSON, LCDR STOWELL served as Commanding Officer, USS BENEWAH QAPB-355, flagship for the River Assault Force op- erating in South Vietnam. Lieutenant Commander STOWELL has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Combat the Army Commendation Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon. He is authorized to wear the Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expedi- tionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
