These sailors are concerned with external as well as some internal communications. This division could perhaps be called the melting pot of the Navy. There are seven different rates in OC Division and they all live in the same compartment. Radiomen listen.to the ticker of teletype machines all day. They live behind closed doors most of their life in the Navy. These men are responsible for insuring that the Edson gets the word on time. Working in the open air, the Signalman also see that the ship gets the word. However, these men are concerned with strictly visual communciations. Put a lamp in the hands of a Signalman and stand by to receive flashing light. They arepretty good at semifore also. Quartermasters plot, fix, track, DR and all kinds of other navigational gymnastics.
