The job of keeping EDSON shipshape, of sweeping, cleaning, chipping, and painting her topside spaces is only the beginning. Ground tackle, mooring lines, and deck fittings must be preserved. EDSON must be made continuously ready for underway replenishments which may come at any time. In addition to these routine tasks, watches must be stood. Lookouts, helmsmen, lee helmsmen, aftersteering men must man their stations twenty-four hours a day under the watchful supervision of the Boatswain lVlate of the Watch. must always anticipate the unexpected. ls the towing gear ready to take another ship in tow? This task involves more than just Load and shoot.
