Within moments the doleful groan that is unmistakably a 5 f54 Gun Mount could be heard along with the whine of the 3 f 50 amplydynes. The guns swung out, and when the word was passed, hundreds of pounds of deadly high explosives whistled off to wreak havoc upon the enemy. The scene was repeated on many occasions. Always the guns were ready. This was not luck though 5 f54 gun problems are almost legend. It was a hard working Second Division that did it, with Gator, Joe, Walt, Tuna, and Cal showing the way. These were the Raiders Top Guns, always to be remembered when the Grey Ghost Cruise of 65-66 is recalled in sea stories for many a year to come.
