' Crews, SN, Fuerst, SN, Santry, SA, Parrish, SA, FIRST DIVISION The First Division on EDSON is composed entirely of Boatswain's Mates who are bitter known to the rest of the crew as the Deck Force. First Division has the primary responsibility of keeping EDSON looking sharp and proud. During a normal day underway, the division may be found chipping and painting, doing fancy work to dress up the quarterdeck, or even swabbing the decks. During our numerous underway replenishments, First's men will be found rigging the stations, manning signal stations, and tending phone lines: and during general quarters they may be found on the gunmounts as loaders or in the magazines as handlers. In port the steady process of keeping our Lady in Paint and Powder still goes on as sides must be cleaned, decks re-' painted, and all topside areas washed down. When in WestPac, the boats must be constantly kept clean and in top running condition so liberty parties may go ashore. As one can readily see, the men in First Division must truly be Jacks of all Trades.
