The following pages will show some of the places we visited and enjoyed while on deployment. ' Most of all, however, we must state why we were in the Western Pacific, and the following message of Vice Admiral Roy L. Johnson, Commander, U. S. Seventh Fleet to the homeward bound ships gives the reason explicitly. The manner in which you have carried out your many and varied assignments during this deployment indicate a team of dedicated professionals engaged in purposeful employment. Your conduct during Gulf of T onkin operations and special operations in the South China Sea have been particularly noteworthy, Well Done, Good Luck, and Best Wishes for a most pleasant voyage home.
