The radar men play amajor part in assuring that the ship quickly and accurately exe- cutes the complex and often radical maneuvers that screening ships are called upon to make, From radio and radar the RDS take information, put it on maneuvering boards or the DRT, and use their skill and training to come up with the course speed, CPA, ETA, Datum position--Whatever information is needed by the conning officer. The ETs maintain the radar and radio equipment which allows the radarmen to per- form their magic. And they lend a hand on most of the electronic equipment on the ship. They are the men who come on the run when you cannot raise Big Boy, or the picture on the scope is out. Together they make a major contribution to the EDSON's operational capability. ..

That plan of the day is yeomen's work, as is the entry in your service record and the letter the Captain sends out. They have plenty of paper Work -- but they keep up with it. The star gazers, or the QMS, are charged with keeping up with the position of the ship. By loran, by radar fixes and by their .specialty of star sights and sun lines. They plot the position of the ship, and send their eight o'clock posits to the Commodore and the Commanding Officer. The Signalmen are part of the communications team along with the r adiom e n. To- gether, they are the voice of command receiving orders and information via flashing light and fleet broadcasts. The communicators have a position of trust and responsibility -- and they carry out their duties in a manner in which any ship in the fleet could justly be proud. ,
