The R Division, another subdivision oi the engineering de- partment, consists of various groups including the shipiitters, electricians, l. C. and the machinery repair gangs. These men take care ot the odd jobs around the ship. The R Division's primary responsibilities include: electrical lighting and power, interior communication, ships master gyro compass, steering engines, heating, ventilation, plumbing and piping systems, refrigeration systems, water tightness of the ship, and all work needed to be accomplished by the machine and shipfitters shops. Most oi the R Division are in the damage control parties during general quarters, and are responsible for keep- ing the ship a fighting unit as long as possible in case of sus- tained battle damage.
