The main aim of Edsel Ford's English Humanities program is to induce every student to communicate by introducing him to the media of literature, art and music, while viewing the world through various artists. The arrangement of the humanities program is such that students have three days a week for English and one day each for music and art The English classes stress both literary style and the idea contained in each selection, which may be the work of a novelist, a poet, a short-story writer, or a playwright In the art and music humanities courses, students first study the work of masters, then try to apply these observations to the problems facing them in their own work, whether it's a theme, a sculpture or a wooden spoon. As a result of these experiences, Edsel Ford students are better able to participate in broader types of artistic expression
