Edsel Ford's business education department tries to develop in students the proper skills and attitudes necessary to gain adequate employment in the clerical, stenographic, bookkeeping, and retailing fields upon graduation. Individual needs of the student are met by training them along the lines to which they are best suited according to their abilities and desires. To enable students to better prepare themselves for jobs, release time is given during the senior year. Students acquire actual experience by working in the business field while continuing their business training in school. Edsel Ford High School maintains a placement office and endeavors to place its students in jobs upon achievement of their graduation. Science Dept Edsel Ford's science department strives to meet a great need in today's world-the need for students to understand their physical en- vironment. To this end, all students are re- quired to take three semesters of natural science. Included in this program are courses in biology, chemistry, and physics. These required classes consist of basic laboratory courses which enable interested students, who have the needed ability, to go on with further elective science courses. They also help complete a major or minor as part of the college prep courses. However, the in- tructors' main goal in these courses is to give pupils an insight into scienceg to understand the world of nature, to understand methods used in science, and to realize how important science is to a persons everyday life. Elective courses at Edsel Ford consist of second semesters in biology, chemistry, or physics. 0 Mathematics Department ' etet tttt , rf ,f Math teachers at Edsel Ford strive to show the re- lationship between the math courses offered and at the same time develop the student's mathematical abilities. Edsel Ford High School's mathematics depart- ment offers four semesters of algebra, three sem- esters of geometry, and one semester of trigonometry. These courses are all elective subjects, and follow in succession. In various occupations, higher math is essential, but even if a person is not planning a career in which advanced mathematics is a must. he will tind math helpful. This is because the necessities of everyday life require some mathematical knowledge.
