EDON HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL The love story of Annie Oakley and Frank Butler is also the story of early Ohioans and their love of entertainment. It was this tale that Rodgers and Hammerstein brought to life in this year ' s musical, Annie Get Your Gun. Shooting matches, Indians, motorcycle rides, and dancing girls dressed in costumes made by the Home Economics Department, provided the back¬ ground for Annie (Karen Siebenaler), Frank (Steve Bloir), and their meddlesome partners, Charlie (Doug Holthues) and Dolly (Cindy Lemmon.) Rehearsals started in March for the April 30-May 1 production with the selection of the cast by directors Jim Gallehue and Lyn Peugeot. For weeks music coming from the band room consisted of such audience catchers as There ' s No Business Like Show Business, and I Can Do Anything Better Than You. Everything was right on schedule with Sherry Bowles ably assisting as student director. Suddenly with nine hours until the curtain went up, the roof fell in. The scenery, on order from Columbus, was not going to arrive. Heads went together, Mrs. Hall and the art classes went to work and at 8:00 the orchestra played, spotlights came on and the curtain opened to a stage filled with background pieces beautifully done by our own students. 13 Dave Mohre, President of the Senior Class, thanks the Juniors for the festivities. Each day many Edon High School students, twenty-nine to be exact, leave their home school and travel to Four County Vocational School. There they have an opporunity to take courses not offered at Edon High School, and to learn a vocation. Agriculture, Business and Office Education, Home Economics, and Trade and Industrial Education are the four major divisions of training. Altogether some thirty-four individual courses of study are offered. Through this training, work habits are developed, technical knowledge and basic performance skills are developed, and qualified people are placed in vocational job areas. Following is a list of Seniors and their chosen vocation: Deb Kissinger-Health Occupation Connie Curry-Commercial Art Nick Dulle-Building Trades Randy Entenman-BuiIding Trades Bill Fry-Agriculture Mechanics Ron Gearhart-BuiIding Trades Craig Goshorn-Building Trades Ron Hake-Agriculture Mechanics Joe Headley-Agriculture Mechanics Chris Lutz-Auto Mechanics Julie Mohre-Cosmetology Kevin Skiles-Engines Kent Thiel-Auto Body Dorothy Kuckuck Thompson-Data Processing Jenice Trausch-Cooperative Office Education Robin Weldon-Cosmetology Art Goodside-Home Appliances Karen Borton-Data Processing Tony Disbro in Agriculture Mechanics. With 2 minutes to go, Al Lupien blocked a Ram punt and Gary Bowling ran for a TD making the score 7-6. He then ran in for a two pt. conversion to make it 8-7, in the Bombers favor. Neil Bowling intercepted, with 46 sec¬ onds to go, a pass. And time ran out on the clock giving Edon another victory. The Reserves had a similar occurance on Saturday, Oct. 18 when they over came the Edgerton Bulldogs with 2 minutes to go. A pass was thrown from Gary Bowling to Gary Gearhart who ran for 70 yards and a Touchdown. With one minute left on the clock, Kerry Matthews scored a 2 pt. conversion and Bombers won 8-7. THE 1975-76 FRESHMAN AND RESERVE BASKETBALL TEAMS The Reserve Basketball Season came to a grand final with a thrilling 56-54 triple overtime victory over Antwerp on the last game of the season. The reserves also scored impressive victories over Camden 60-34 and Fayette 51-40. Also included was a 50-43 overtime victory over Hilltop. The team showed steady progress during the season and despite the lack of height played very well on many occasions. Close contests were lost to Hilltop and North Central and on several occasions the team played well during three quarters only to have one poor quarter and lose. Nevertheless, improvement was made and several players promise to be good varsity players. FRESHMAN TEAM: FIRST ROW: Mike Blue, Mark Blue, Kerry Brigle, Mike Long, Dan Hug, Tony Entenman manager. COMMENDABLE SEASON The Varsity Basketball team fin¬ ished in the middle of what would have to be considered possibly the best Class A League in Ohio. Four Seniors, Floyd Goshorn, Kevin Skiles, Lynn Smith, and Randy Thiel, were among the starting five with only one returning starter, Randy Thiel. Randy Thiel broke the single game scoring record with a 35 point burst at North Central. He also broke the single season scoring record set last year by Steve Bowling. Faced with inexperience and against exceptionally fine com¬ petition, the Bombers made a very commendable showing in the 75-76 season. Officers were elected in the fall and because of the small class size dues of $10 per student initiated. Mr. Thiel, class advisor, worked with the class to get ready for Homecoming. Ad¬ vertising was sold to pay for programs for the Homecoming game while the Homecoming committee developed the theme The Year Of The Bicentennial. An 8 foot by 5 foot 1776 flag was made by Sis Hug and Mary Hoag and wicker chairs, donated by Mrs. Clela Curry, adorned the float for the Queen and Court. Because the Junior class is small it was decided to have a slave Day to raise money. Dennis Curry plowed a field, Larry Kline turned his home into a car wash and other Juniors had jobs raking leaves and washing windows. The Junior class also sold programs at basketball games with cover designs by Tom Peckinpaugh and Dave Thomas. One of the many things the Sophomore ' s look forward to is making a float for the Home¬ coming. They worked on the float at Joe Wolfe ' s Garage under the advisement of Mr. Caris. Kenny Siebenaler furnished the tractor, the wagon, and his driving ability. Another thing the Sophomore ' s look forward to is ordering their class rings. They ordered them on October 8th and received them on March 12th. They were all very excited to receive them. This year they won second with a float depicting, Sink the Hamilton Marines. Mr. Jerdonek, class advisor, was busy with the football team and asked Miss Pollock to help with the float. They worked on the float at Nickie Mohre ' s home. Nickie ' s pet goat, Muisance, tried to get into the action. While the Freshman were busy working on the float, Nuisance was busy working on the tail lights of Mr. Jer- donek ' s car and Miss Pollock ' s purse. Both were recoved before any real damage was done, but many Freshman will long remem¬ ber the helpful boost given by Nuisance. FERN HEMENWAY Mrs. Fern Hemenway has taught a total of thirty-six years. Her career began in 1936 in a one room school house in Williams Center, Ohio. She had thirty students and taught all eight grades for one year. She then taught for two years, again all eight grades, at Union Corners Country School located north of Springlake Grange. Enjoying just one grade, fourth grade, she taught for twenty-five at Edon. When the schools were consolidated, into Edon- Northwest, she moved to third grade at the Morthwest building. She has taught there for the last seven years. Her students remember the special stories she used to read, and the beautiful decorations in her school room from her travels. Mrs. Hemenway, who loved teaching, will be remembered with love by many past, present and future graduates of Edon High School. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Bowling Green State University which took twenty-nine years to get. Mrs. Vivienne Waterston began her teaching career substituting at the historic Hay Jay School. She taught all eight grades, all subjects with janitorial duties. Moving to Morth¬ west School, she helped with an overflowing enrollment. After teaching second semester at Ainger School, Mrs. Waterston re¬ turned to Northwest to teach second and third grades, the year the new addition was built. Since then she has taught fourth grade at North¬ west for a total of twenty years of teaching. Students remember the programs she presented the Mothers Club, with each student having a part. She always took time to answer notes to her student papers and also allotted space on the new blacktop at Northwest School for each activity. Students also remember being required to eat at least two bites of each food on their tray when Mrs. Waterston had cafeteria duty and the cooks, knowing her dislike for peas, always gave her two spoonfuls when peas were served. Many students at Edon High School have fond memories of Mrs. Water¬ ston, lovelingly known as Mrs. Wet Rock.” Mrs. Waterston holds a two year Diploma from Bowling Green State University. G. Each has a special bus route. Dayton Young, for example, drives the Kindergarten bus, and team buses for all sports besides driving bus in the morning and after school. Junior Lloyd drives when he is needed and during the years he has been a janitor at Edon High School, he has driven every route. All the drivers enjoy driving bus, and believe the kids make their job more fun. Junior Lloyd repairing a light in the Typing Room. Bus Drivers: Russell Kuckuck, Norman Kuckuck, Junior Lloyd, James Burlew, Rosa Burlew, Mildred Faulhaber, Dayton Young, Bob Reamsnyder. 78 EDON HIGH SCHOOL COOKS AND CUSTODIANS Edon High School is fortunate to have Donna Price, and Millie Luke in the kitchen. They prepare such delicacies as Lasagne, Salisbury Steak, Fried Chicken, Tacos, Pumpkin Custard, Ginderbread, and Peach Delight. This year a Milk Shake Machine was added operated by Junior Lloyd. He always seemed to have business. Donna has worked in the E.H.S. kitchen for five years and Millie, 10 years. Both enjoy bring with the students. The Janitors, in charge of building main¬ tenance, need to be handy, handy men. Dayton has been at Edon High School since before the addition was added to the school, but Junior has only been with the system for five years. They also double as bus drivers as do Larry Hug and Robert Reamsnyder. Ron Schuller is a night watchman and janitor. He also opens the school on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons for community use. Ron remembers a frustrating yet amusing moment with the schools heating system. Late one cold winter night, the heating system refused to work properly. Ron, assisted by Dayton, Junior and Superintendent, Kent Adams, were adjusting a relief valve over Mr. Fritz ' s office. Mr. Adams took over the adjusting and turned the valve a bit too far. Water flowed out and Mr. Adams got soaked! Even with those few dismaying moments, all the janitors enjoy their jobs and the students at Edon High School. Cooks, Donna Price and Millie Luke, happily prepare lunch. Janitors, Robert R eamsnyder, Junior Lloyd, Dayton Young, Larry Hug, and Ron Schuller. 79 Eighth Grade Cheerleaders: Lisa Schaffter, Lisa Miller, Kim Seegert, captain, and Lori Wagner. The eighth grade cheerleaders were chosen last October by a panel of Junior High Teachers. Kim Seegert was chosen captain and Tammy Rehmert, seventh grade captain, was eighth grade alternate. They cheered at all Eighth Grade Games, helped with a high school football half-time show, and helped sell cake tickets at high school basketball games. Among the amusing moments of the season, the girls did a cheer to present the team and the boys didn ' t come out of the locker room. JR. HIGH CHEERLEADERS Seventh Grade Cheerleaders: Teena Kissinger, Cindy Brigle, Barb Hoffman, and Tammy Rehbert, captain. The seventh grade cheerleaders were chosen in October along with the eight grade cheerleaders. Two individual cheers were required and one group cheer. Tammy Rehmert was chosen captain, with Barb Long chosen alternate. The girls cheered all seventh grade basketball games which were held after school. At one game Cindy Brigle became upset with a fellow cheerleader and threw her Pom-Poms at Barb Hoffman. Despite this amusing incident, the boys had a winning season. 81 JUNIOR HIGH BASKETBALL AND FRONT ROW: Lyle Van de Voorde, Dan Greathouse, Dennis Fen- stermaker, Ronnie Dean, Tom Dewire, Matt Barraco, Scott Bidwell. Geraldine Mason has been a cook at North¬ west for 20 years. She ' s seen many a stu¬ dent come and go. She takes care of bank¬ ing the lunch money. Patricia Slagle has been at Northwest for 13 years. Both women are there daily from 7:30-1:00. The cooks really enjoy their job. They feel they are building the kids ' bodies, while teachers are building their minds. Hugh Skiles has been the school ' s janitor for 12 years. He also drove a school bus for nine years before that. His main job at Northwest is general maintenance and care for the building. If you ever drive past the school, you ' ll see the fine job he ' s done. Mr. Skiles takes time out of his busy schedule to pose and smile. NORTHWEST COOKS AND CUSTODIAN 83 MR.
