Present Two other new organizations made their ap- pearance in recent months, the Spanish Honor Society and the Math Clubr Eleven students with honor grades were initiated into the Spanish Society with a formal ceremony on March I9 in the school library. Each member was given a certificate which afiirmed his membership in the chapter Ruben Dario. This group did many in- teresting things in the four short months before -Iune. Besides studying about the Spanish speak- ing countries, they had native Spaniards speak to them. and they went on a field trip to a Spanish restaurant. Members of the Modern Math Club got a whiff of what modern math was really like. They started to learn about set relations, i.e. selecting certain objects or certain people according to one distinct common quality. Investigations into the history of math and problem solving aided the club's aim to promote interest in the use and pur- pose of math in everyday life. pb. Honor - Past and This year Edmondson writers joined Quill and Scroll, international honor society for high school journalists. Fifteen Edmondsonians were tapped into this society which yearly enrolls 25,000 new members. Since 1926, the society has installed charter chapters in more than 7,200 schools. To qualify for membership in Quill and Scroll, a student must be in the upper one-third of his class in scholastic standing and have a high char- acter. He must have done extra-curricular work above and beyond the call of duty, and, if on the Eagle staff, he must have written two hundred inches of copy. Members of the newly-formed History Acada emy love history and find entertaining ways to learn about it. This year's activities included a trip to historical Gettysburg, a visit to XValters Art Gallery, and talks by guest speakers. Mem- bers of the club brought in personal objects per- taining to the period being studied. Debating between members became fast and furious, but all went back to normal at the conclusion of the meetings. For these students, history really came alive.
