The band gave three half-time
shows this year, each having a
theme all its own. The Model-T
pictured at the left had wheels
which rotated to the tune of
"ln My Merry Oldsmobile". ln
another show, the band gave
its dance version of "Bleecher
Boogie".
The show which many band
members enioyed doing the
most was that given for "Coach

narrated by Mr. Aliverti, brought applause and laughter from the audience at the Pop Concert. The Mid-Winter and Spring

Works B Modern Composers Were
Classical music by modern composers ralher lhan by lhe old maslers held the lop spol in lhe orches+ra's reper-
loire' for fhe i956-'57 season. Orcheslra members found music by the laler composers lo be more inferesling lo
play than lhal' of lhe lradilional classics rhey had been playing previously. because modern worlcs were a bil unu-
sual and had possibililies lor freer inlerprelalion. The "January, February March" by Don Gillis, which was played
al lhe Mid-Winler Concert, was a Composilion ol lhe modern classical variely.
Soloisls 'fealurecl by lhe orchesfra chose. however, lo play music by lhe old maslers. Al lhe Mid-Winler Concert,
Dorolhy Niver played a Mozarl' horn concerlo, and ai' lhe Spring Concerl, Michael Curry played a Mendelssohn
piano concerfo.
An increasingly difficulf problem, fha? of qeflinq all lhe members of rhe orcheslra lo rehearsals, laced Mr. Ander-
son, music direclor, and lhrealenecl lhe high slandards ol performance fhe orcheslra rnainiained in lhe pasl years.
Many members were in ihe orchesfra on a perl-lime basis and had lo miss other classes in order lo rehearse wilh
lhe qroup. Members of The Lynnwood Junior High School orcheslra were used lo supplemenl lhe wealcer seclions.
Afler arrangemenls wilh members of The faculties of bolh schools, Mr. Anderson was able +o have a rehearsal of
The complete orcheslra once a weelr. and wilh exlra, worlc cn everyones parl the slandards were well mainlained.

Girls' Club Program Sparked
By New Adviser, Mrs. Nelson
With the help of their new adviser, Mrs, Nelson, the Girls' Club started the year
by staging their annual Big and Little Sister Banquet under the guidance of Dale
Witte in mid-September. As the months dritted into November, the dance com-
rnittees, headed by Lee Mufanax, worlced feverishly to malre their annual Tolo a
success, The Mothers Day Tea and fashion show planned by Jane Cvraef highlighted
the clubs activities during the late spring. The ever hungry treasury was satisfied
by the money brought in from various projects. Heading the list of money raisers
were the candy sales which not only helped till up the bottomless treasury but
supplied extra nourishment for the student body.
The meetings were planned and carried out by the Girls' Club officers. A fashion
show was given and clothes were supplied by a dress shop in Seattle. They were
modeled by girls from Edmonds High School.
OFHCERS. Gudfng Girls' Club in PROGRAM CHAIRMEN. The buoyant spirits ot

Spotlight Boys' Club Program
Nineteen titty-six was a big year tor the Boys' Club intramural program. The largest
number ot participants in the schools history turned out to talre part in the activi-
ties. A new series of events, including an indoor traclc meet, was added to the
already expanded program.
During early winter the Boys' and Girls' Clubs ioined torces to carry out a clothing
drive at the school, Eight hundred pounds was the amount set to be collected for
the less tortunate ot the world. Twenty-tive hundred pounds. a little more than three
times the quota. was collected through roll room competition.
Under the direction ot president Al Morgan, the boys raised money tor their
detlated treasury by putting on a rooter hat sale. The sale served a two-told
purpose, lt not only netted the organization money but helped to 'foster school spirit.

nnual Spring Publications Banquet Highlighted
Highlight ofthe year tor Quill and Scroll, the international
honorary tor high school iournalists, was the sponsoring of
the annual Publications Banquet which took place in May
and featured Jaclr Jarvis, city editor ot the Post-lntelli'
qencer, as guest speaker.
Earning money was, as in many other organizations, a prob-
lem that was overcome by the operation ot concession
stands at athletic events. Funds were needed for editor's
pins and for the banquet.
To be eligible tor Quill and Scroll, a candidate must be a
member of student publications and a iunior or senior in the
upper third ot his class scholastically. He must have done
superior writing, editing, or business managinq in connec-
tion with student publications: and he must be recom-
mended by the adviser.
The Homer Post chapter of Edmonds Quill and Scroll, was
named in honor ot Mr. Post in i936 when he was inter-
national president ot Quill and Scroll. He served many
years as adviser ot the Lincoln High School News at Tacoma
and has been prominent nationally in student iournalistic
activities. ln addition to his many other activities, he worked
as part-time copy chief ot a Tacoma daily.
Members of Quill and Scroll were - top row: Rene Smith,
president: Barrett Worthington, vice-president: Roger Van
Parys, secretary: Carin Fenton, treasurer: Dick Curry.
Bottom row: Mary Alice Brown, Phyllis Henning, Gary Lee,
Sue Madden. Mia Mudge, and Gail Thompson.
