neer at Edison on February eleventh, ot this year. Born in Glasgow, Scotland,
Mr. Stewart came to the United States at the age ot seventeen. l-le began working
tor the Minneapolis Public Schools in l89l as clerk in a repair shop. When Edie
son High School was built, Mr. Stewart was called to supervise the heating sys
tem. l-lis work at our school terminated tortyenine years ot service in the city
schools.
A canny Scottish knack tor meeting any situation that might arise, and a gitt
tcr keeping school children out of mischief were two ot Mr. Stewarts best traits.
Because ot his iotly personality and broad beaming smile, thousands ot students
well as faculty members have become his true friends.
At a farewell banquet given in his honor by the engineering department and
faculty, Mr. Stewart was presented with a cane on which were engraved the sig-
natures ot each member ot the administration. We, the student body, should also
like to be included among Mr. Stewart's memories of Edison High School.

Reference Books form a very important section
of our library. At various times during our school
lives, we refer to such books, confident of being sup-
plied with the information we are seeking. With their
informative material, the Reference Books direct us
along the road of better understanding. Each book
conveniently lined up in its alphabetical order re-
sembles a teacher in his specified department. The
faculty, always Willing to impart their knowledge to
us, continually extend their helping hands to guide
us to clearer thinking and broader learning.
The Good Masters
Mr. Eddis lanes, assistant principal,
has Lecorrie a favorite arnong the stu-
dents and faculty. Arranging schede
ules for classes and teachers, and solve
ing problems of looys and girls oc-

dents who desire to lce excused or
who have difficulties in the grouping
of their subjects consult Mr. lanes.
He is very helpful and understanding.
MR. EDDIE IANES
"A great companion is a
pool: a lcoolc that fitly
chosen is a life-long friend."
The personality of our prin-
cipal, Mr. Cook, resembles
a very good lcoolc. The
pages of his versatile mind

and faculty with the won-
ders of science. ln Mr.
Cock we find a person who
has acquired rnany outside
interests through his love
for reading. Time can never
erase the teachings and
character of our reference
cook, Mr. Cook.

Biography is one of the most widely read forms
of literature. Because Biographies are stories of high
achievement, we read them for inspiration. In what-
ever field of enterprise our prime interest lies, we may
find recorded lives to point the way toward the crown
of accomplishment. In high school, seniors set the
pace for the underclassmen. In these first few chap-
ters of their lives we read the stories of the fine friend-
ships, class activities, and social meetings which they
experienced during their schooldays. Now, upon
graduating, the seniors of Edison face the future with
the firm purpose of successfully completing their
Biographies.

The moments of enjoyment obtained from the ex-
tra curricular activities at Edison are vividly recorded
upon the pages ot our Diaries. Membership in one
of the many service or social clubs has given us in-
teresting material for our records. The various or-
ganizations at Edison have not only offered us a means
ot exercising our talents, but they have also enabled
us to make lasting friendships. ln years to come, as
we look back to our Diaries, we shall revive the mem-
ories of those treasured moments spent in school ac-
tivities.

DRUM MAIORS AND MAIORETTES
Dolores Englund, Barbara Foster, Charles Hendrickson, Robert Grill,
Dorothy Englund.
Power and the Glory
An innovation at Edison are the drum majors and majorettes. Strutting proud-
ly, they twirl their batons and cut capers to the delight of the onlookers. Their
performances with the band have added much to the gaiety of the football games
and band concerts. At various other times during the year they perform for pep
assemblies and ParentATeacher meetings.
The Music Council is composed of representatives elected by each of the
various musical groups. They meet several times a semester to discuss the
qualifications of students for awards. These awards are presented to the pupils
at a special assembly which is given twice a year. Mr. Lunlcley and Mr. Soder-
gren are the advisers of the council.

The Songs
Membership in the Choral Club is the medium through which students can
use their musical talent tor the benefit ot the entire school. This group is often
requested to sing tor the Mothers' Club meetings, or tor school assemblies.
About once a year they produce an operetta. Mr. Sodergren, the director, has
organized the club ior the purpose ot encouraging a love tor singing among the
students.
The First Choir develops its members' talent so that they will be ready to
enter Choral Cluo. The choir's participation in the baccalaureate service consti-
tutes its outstanding public appearance during the year.

Americans in the Making
ln their weekly meetings, the Student Council repre-
sentatives consider any proposals for new school rules or
enioyable social activities which their fellow students suq-
gest. All matters submitted to this body are discussed thor-
oughly and then referred to the proper committee. After
the committee has investigated further, it reports its findings
to the Council for action. If the measure is accepted, it is
put into execution immediately. A record is kept of all pro!
posals voted upon in case the decision is needed for future
reference.
Every spring, the Council sponsors the Vodvil, and in
the fall, the annual Homecoming celebration. At various
other times during the year, this group arranges the alle
school sunlites, parties, and assemblies.

So Many Pathways
The Latin Club has as its insignia the letters S. P. Q. R. which signify the
Senate and the Roman People. This symbol was very prominent among the Ro-
mans and still exists in some sections of modern Rome. All Latin students may
become members of the club.
Each semester a group of capable students willingly give up their time to
work in the library. The monitors assist the students in finding references, news
articles, and books. They also maintain order during the study periods by issuing
blue slips to the miscreants.

Fame is the Spur
New members of the Pootliqhts and Curtain Club are selected by Miss Garf
land, Miss Tupper, and Mr. Sanders, who pass their decisions on the tryouts
held at the beginning of the semester. The club members provide entertain-
ment and display their talents in plays presented in assemblies.
The desire to serve the school and gain practical experience while doinq so
is the main objective of the girls who volunteer for the office training class. The
paqes, by assisting the members of the staff, acquaint themselves with the duties
which constitute the daily routine of office life.

Gaining experience through service to the school, the members of the
Ushers Club assist at all school functions such as class plays, parties, operettas,

Glimpses of school parties, clubs, senior banquets,
class plays, and vodvils are a few events of the social
life of Edison which are commemorated in our Scrap-
books. As we glance through the fascinating pages
of these books, we see clippings, snapshots, and col-
orful invitations, each bearing some pleasant memory
of our participation in various recreational affairs.
Nowhere else shall we be able to find such an inter-
esting panorama of the social life at school as in our
Scrapbooks.
fir. Czzlc 'xt thf hzrfrnetoy,
The storzn naturally affected
school life here at Edison. The
znaznrnoth clrzfts of snow retarded
traffic. School was closed for
two Clays, and when it reopened
the ahsense sheets swelled con
sxlerably because of the stalled
cars and blocked streets.

the final plunge. Edison lost by a score of 6 to l2 to West. The Vocationals and
Wizards played and fought their hearts out just to show the opposing teammates
what they could do. The Tommies lost to a superior Volt squad l3 to O. Finally

which each member of both teams played an important part. The lnventors
finally trounced the Cardinals l4 to 6. North fell before Edison with an identical
score of l4 to 6. The Polars were not able to squeeze more than one score by
the Wizard squad. Edison held like a brick wall, allowing no passage without
effort. The team played the game of the season by forcing Central to their knees
for the first time in fifteen years. The Tommies did not allow one single score to
slip by them. ln the final game of the season Edison defeated Central with an
overwhelming score of Sl to U. Although the lnventors were balked in their
championship drive by West, Edison placed second in the city finals.

Edison swingsters lost their tirst three games of the season but made a bril-
liant comeback by defeating all other opponents. Loren Bain, through his out-
standing pitching, put Edison in third place in the city finals. Bain pitched the
game ot his career when he allowed only one man to reach tirst base in carrying
Edison to a victory over Central. Walt Mernik showed his might in batting when
he helped defeat Vocational in a shut-out game. Edison had an unusually good
hard hitting team which accounted tor most of its victories. Although crushed in

For a number ot years Field Hockey has been de-
signated as the most popular sport in Edison. This in-

MODERN DANCE
l-fealth is Wealth
Perhaps one of the reasons so many girls take modern dance is that they are
given absolute freedom to express themselves in any way they desire. By learn
ing the essential movements of the dance, the students are able to develop their
posture and poise.
ARCHERY
Though archery was introduced to the
G. A. A. only a few years ago, it has become
one of the most outstanding individual
sports. This exciting game requires skill
and accuracy of the eye and is one of the
few sports which is beneficial in develop-
ing steacliness of the hand. This term eight
of our most skillful members were invited
to he participants in the Roohinsdale High
School Archery Tournament. Edison was
