The Education Service Center, located at 31st and New Haven, is a modern structure promoting modern education. Adult education for the welfare of children and youth is the purpose of the Parent-Teacher Association. This na- tional organization was founded in 1897 and now has a membership of over l2,000,000 working for the betterment of education. The P-TA at Edison serves as the public re- lations medium for the school and strives to coordinate its activities with those of surrounding schools. Guidance counselors assist each student in selecting a high school curriculum, a major field of study, and a university best fitted to his personality, interests, and capabilities. They are sincerely interested in the personal problems of students, and work long hours to guide each one individually. P.T.A. officers are, from left to right: delegate, Mrs. William B. Dr. Charles C. Mason. who has served as Super- intendent of the Tulsa Public Schools since 19444 has, through diligent and efficient service, raised the Tulsa schools to a new standard of excellence. For the last twelve years, Dr. Mason has accepted for the Tulsa schools the National Freedom Foun- dation Award for the teaching of citizenship and democracy in the schools. Ninety-nine schools and over 77,000 students are under his supervision. Be- sides his excellent worlc as chief administrator of the Tulsa school system, Dr. Mason also acts as executive officer of the Tulsa Board of Education. Tulsaas Board of Education is composed of seven members, elected for three-year terms to establish and carry out school policies. These members are civic-minded citizens who further the aims of edu- cation and serve without remuneration. Keeping the curriculum of the schools up-to-date is one of the Boardis many duties. It also strives to coordinate the schools and keep them working toward common goals. lt is constantly in contact with hundreds of school administrators and representatives, yet it manages to keep a personal touch as it guides the students of public schools to greater achievement.
