Volume XI
Edison Township High School
Edison, New JerseyBeneath Mr. Lo Maestro's stoic exterior one moy find
not only an idealist, but a romantic os well. And so we
hove chosen the sonnet, the most romantic of all forms of
poetry, to express our appreciation and gratitude for oil
he has done and will continue to do for the students of
Edison High School.
2Dedication
Ah — there ore many oft repeated words
And vain attempts by those whose minds he's touched.
To describe that which describing only blurs.
For clarity of explanation clutched.
Slips through the fingers of a searching mind.
But this one guides the blind out of the night.
Out of the darkness, our direction defined.
We continue to seek the awaiting light.
That light, deeply penetrating, ne'er beset.
Remains with us for all eternity.
Though none can endeovor to repay the debt.
The bounds of his influence surpass infinity.
The Teocher — transforming to strength our weakness
Empowers us to defeat impending obliqueness.This is a book that has recorded time;
it is also a book that is timeless.
Captured in our images are memories that will
long be cherished, never fading;
their imprint will be everlasting.
These moments — some triumphant, others disappointing —
contribute to the foundations of our futures.
But time, so limited, so demanding,
deprives us of the leisure to reflect.
We will laugh at some of our experiences
and hopefully learn from others.
We will remember many of them as exciting and new,
but we will also see familiar ones with a spark,
kindling a fresh awareness.
All of them should be remembered,
primarily for the happiness they gave us,
for enjoyment is the essence.
This book is written about the many seasons of our time.
Come along through these pages
and let us see ourselves.
We shall begin at our beginning . . .7LEO F. SCANLON, Principal
Congratulations to the members of the Class of 1970
on your graduation. I would also like to commend the
class for its sense of responsibility and reason in ap-
proaching and overcoming problems which developed
during the year. It is evident that you understand and
appreciate the democratic ideals of our country.

This spring we can all look forward to a fantastic
baseball season. Coaches Carkhuff and Kuzma are con-

added by Co-captains Gary Zardavets and George
Banos, aided by the abundance of experienced seniors.

Industrial
Two recently initiated programs have
achieved full potential this year. Under
the expert guidance of Miss Yasenchak,
Mr. Flor, and Mr. Lynch, the T l and
Coop, programs have benefited a good
many students. In T l., boys have an op-
portunity to attend school part-time in
the industrial fields, and in Coop, girls
can work part-time in the business
world.
170Both programs are to be expanded, so even
more EHS students can participate. Although
students participating in the T l and Coop. Pro-
grams are not always seen in the corridors, their
role is among the most important achievements
in the educational experience at EHS.

EagleV‘ Time is of the essence.'' We hove the motivation and the strength that our youth,
ambition, and hopes inspire. What we make of our today determines what our tomorrow
will bring.
"To everything there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heavens:
A time to be born and a time to die,
A time to plant and a time to reap;
A time to kill and a time to heal;
A time to weep and a time to laugh;
A time to cast away stones, and a time
to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain
from embracing;
A time to rend, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate;
A time of war, and a time of peace."
... A time for us.

223To Everyone Who Mode the Talon '70:
Although this was not the easiest year for any of us, together we have overcome obstacles, many of which seemed im-
possible.
As we reflect upon the pages of this book, let us remember not only our combined efforts for the Talon, but also what each
of us has gained from the memories held within its covers.
Sincerely,
Diane T. Palmer,
Editor-in-Chief
