The pattern» and concepts developed through one’s high school years arc the basis upon which lie builds his future. Here he is offered the opportunity to formulate his aims and prepare himself to fulfill a goal in life. These years also present the needed opportunity wherein the individual learns to accept the necessity of conforming to his society, community and associates. The individual learns to adapt his philosophy with that of his colleagues so as to become an integral part of Tiis group, while retain- ing his individuality. He learns to analyze, to question, to search, to co-operate, and finally, to contribute. He recognizes his need for adequate preparation and for extensive learning in the attaining of his aspirations. The high school years provide the foundation with which one may begin to build the castle of his dreams. Here one learns to “know himself” to the end that he may thus accelerate the process of intel- lectual growth. Here one, also, learns to develop self-discipline, the hallmark of a truly democratic mind. When each person in the world recognizes his responsibility to his associates and attempts to meet this challenge unafraid, then and then only, may the world look forward to ‘‘Peace in our Time.” A high school commencement is a time of mixed emotions. One of life’s vital milestones will have been reached and we would be remiss if we failed to acknowledge our gratitude to those who have made possible the attainment of this milestone. We owe a debt beyond repayment to our parents and educators. Each has contributed extravagantly to the moulding of our character and education. Without their advice, encouragement, perseverance and at times, their coercion, we would be incomplete and poorly defined caricatures of ourselves. These dedicated, interested, cooperative and selfless advisors show us, by their examples, what we must do in order to measure up to what they have every right to expect of us. We must dedicate ourselves and our futures to the principles that each has tried to instill. Thus, we may become worthy of the trust with which we have been blessed.

ma Dear Alma Mater; hear us as we lift our voice in song. To pay our tribute to the school we’ll love forever long. Inside the classroom, on the field, success we won’t deny. We praise thee and we’ll always honor our dear Edison High. So hail Ahna Mater; shine bright O’ Red and Gold. Thy precepts we’ll cherish, throughout the many years untold. And when we join thy sons and daughters This is what we’ll sigh. We’ll e’er remember all you’ve taught us. Hail to Edison High. Words by Winston Hughes Music by Frederick Whitman
