Through most of the game, the Sanger forward wall outbarged the Tiger line. Krum. Sanger quarter, was the mainstay for the visitors. Lombardi got off a few beautiful punts -for the Tigers. Edison 0, Roosevelt 0 The Tigers opened their first league game against the Roosevelt Rough Riders in a scoreless t.ime. Denied a chance to score by their heavier oppon- ents for a greater part of the gamefthc Tigers unleashed a drive in the final two minutes, when Lombardi heaved a forty-yard pass to Ed Sargota, who picked it out of the air and started for a touchdown, only to be hauled down on the three-yard line. The Edison line showed up well, as did the backfield. Edison O. Fresno High 12 Fresno Iiigh School Warriors defeated Edison 12 to 0 in the second league encounter. For sixty minutes, the Warriors fought a paek of Edison Tigers, who played such a slam-bang, tight game that the Warriors were not even certain of victory. The Tigers brought out their passing attack and did things the Warriors never thought possible. Lombardi, Makel, Ed Sargota and Cilluffo were the main eogs in the Edison aerial attaek. Argentine and Raimondo played the best ball on the line. J Edison 0, Fresno Tech 12 The final game was played with Fresno Tech, in which Edison spoiled its chances of getting winners-up position in the city league. The Tigers lost to the Wolves by a. score of 12 to O. Argentine on the line and Makel and Ber- nardi in the backfield, were strongholders for Edison. Members of the varsity squad were Mathew Argentine. Johnnie Bernardi. Robert Bier, Danny Bonillas, Sam Cilluf-fo, Ted Faretta. QIQIGHTVVEIGHTS The Edison Tech Midgets, under Coach Jim Telesco, had a very good sea- son. The team won two games, lost one, and tied one. This gave the Midgets second place in their division. In their opening league game the Midgets fought the Roosevelt Rough Rider Tinies. The game was played on oven terms up until the last minute. when the gun saved thc Rough Riders from going down in defeat. The score was 0 to 0. In their second game, whieh was a practice game, the Tigers played the eounty champions of 1931, Selma, and defeated the Pcaeh Pickers to the tune of a 13 to 0 score. The next league game the Tiger Midgets inet their lone defeat of the year to the Fresno High Papooss, 19 to 6. In their final league game. the Tigers trouneed the Fresno Teeh Midgets io the tune of 13 to 0. ' Leo Charlson proved himself for the 1933 varsity by scoring every point. Every man o11 the team proved himself out- standing. Roosevelt 30, Edison 22 Getting off to a slow start, the Tigers found the eleven-point lead which the Rough Riders gathered in the first half, too much to overcome. Although they staged a belated rally, they were stopped by the gun. Bernardi and Henry Miller at forward, and Leo Charlson at guard proved to be outstand- ing for the Tigers. Fresno High 41, Edison 23 Playing the Warriors for the sec-ond time, the Tigers got oft to a fast start and found themselves ahead, with 11. to 4, as the first quarter ended. The half ended in favor of Fresno High, 12 to 11. The seeond half found the Tigers unable to hit the basket, and swamped to the tune of 41 to 23. Lom- bardi Was outstanding for Edison with 11 points. Roosevelt 26, Edison 25 The second meeting of the Tigers and Rough Riders was eonsidered the hest tussle of the season by those who followed the games. lt was not until the final minute that the Tigers fell to defeat by a score of 26 to 25. Jim 3 1 alumbo, playing his first game of the season, proved to be the "dark horse" of the game with 11 points. Charlson and Makel showed up well at guard. For the coming year the Tigers will be minus but three regulars: Tony Li- pari and Henry Miller, two flashy outfieldersg and August Constantine, star first baseman, who led the team in fielding. Edison pulled the surprise of the year when it decisively trounced Fresno lligh. This gave the Tigers their first varsity win over the W21PI'i0I'S since 1927. The squad was composed of Fred Makel, Ted Haas, August Constantine, Leo Charlson, Frank Llpari, NValter Haas, Henry Miller, Tony Lipari, Dave Thomas. Ernie Marks, Verne Fries, and Andrew Henna. TRACK Although Edisonfs class "A" and class "B" teams were not very strong, due to graduation and inelegihility of most of the stars, the class "C" squad had a very successful season. Led by its sprinting ace, Leo Charlson. the class "C" squad hung up seven new records. The team competed in seven meets, winning six, and losing the Valley meet by three points. The class "C" squad has won the City and 'County meets for two years in succession and has been defeated only once in these two years. The men who broke records are H. Ching, who won the City broad jump at 19 feet 11 3-4 inches, and the County hop-step-jump at 37 feet 5 inchesg T. XVong, who took the City hop-stepjump at 37 feet 9 1-2 inches, L.
