Row 5: Coach Ross, A. Barney, S. Schmidt, M. Custer, I. Siegel, S. Cash. .vimw Unlike the past two seasons, this year's varsity track team fell short of its goal for a league championship. Yet despite the fact that this year's squad was small and inexperienced, the enthusiasm of the team did carry it to a third place finish in a very competitive W.l.C.C. South League. Although the team's performance was not outstanding, there were many fine individual efforts. Tom Nolan, while capturing the All League title in the mile walk, also broke the school record in that event. Pete Forrest won All League titles in the 880 and, teaming with Mike Hudes, Clip Erskine, and jim Nelson, also won the mile relay. Spring of 1978 marked the last season for I.V. LACROSSE! GOLF Row 1: A. Reed, A. Morosini, A. Borg, M. Schacher, L. Markowitz. Row 2: R. Aubry, Levine, L. Peng, C. Kurtz. Last year, for the first time, Edge- mont was able to field a j.V. Lacrosse Team. After a shaky start, the team displayed an ability to work as a team and score goals. This young group looks to be an ex- cellent building block upon which to build a very strong Varsity in the next few years. Row 1: K. Flagg, L. Algiero, R. Wortman. Row 2: A. Goldstein, R. Ahlert, D. Doohan. M. Chang, H. Shifrin, M. Adler, L. Lammert. Row 3: Coach Miner, P. Riverso, A. Luria, I. Herb Undercoffler as coach of the Varsity Golf team. Unfortunately, the inexperienced squad was only able to register one win and one tie for its retiring coach. The bright spots of the schedule were the back to back matches with Briarcliff. In the first contest Edgemont was able to capture a tie, even though it was missing two starters. On the following day, with the team at full strength, Edgemont coasted past Briarcliff with a victory. The team's captain Senior Laura Algiero, enjoyed her best year ever in the num- ber one spot. The rest of the team was com- posed solely of underclassmen so next year's rookie coach will have a fine crop of golfers returning. 9

7 tl GIRLS' VARSITY TRACK -- june 1978 marked the end of the second season of the Edge- mont Girls' Track team, which was coached by Mike Barno. The team consisted of many fine athletes who helped the team in dif- ferent events. Among the long distance runners, Kim Flynn, Carolyn Schutze, lane Alexander and Lisa Levine all proved great assets to the team. In the discus event Kate Leven took first place at several meets. Both Linda Martello and Ami Weil received the most valuable player award for their athletic ability and team spirit. Although the record was not as good as the team had an- ticipated, much improvement and skill was gained by all.
