J' The Varsity Basketball team entered the 1977-78 season with high hopes and expectations. It emerged a battered and disappointed squad, finishing its season with four straight losses in compiling a 5-13 record. Although always competitive, the team was hampered by excessive fouling and found itself losing tightly contested games in the closing minutes. Edgemont opened its season with a devastating 54-51 loss at Pelham, despite a 27 point performance by senior forward Adam The Stork Burrows. After defeating a hapless North Salem team behind Todd Cosgrove's 22 points, Edgemont lost a very disappointing 41-37 decision to arch rival Bronxville. Edgemont finished 2nd in the annual Hastings Christmas Tournament as they overwhelmed East Chester behind a 22 point performance by Tony Bernie Bouza, and then lost to powerful Ardsley in the final. Edgemont bounced back from its lackluster performance to defeat Dobbs Ferry, 59-51, sparked by an outstanding defensive performance by Pistol Pete Sileo. Unfortunately Edgemont dropped its last four games, although Burrows scored 10 points in each contest. At the coaches meeting, Adam Burrows was selected as All-League Honorable Mention.

Gluckman, M. Davidoff, A. Glickman. C D-L. The l.V. Basketball team, labelled by many as the most talented l.V. ever at Edgemont, concluded the season with a very disappointing 8-9 record. The Panthers, after an horrendous start, finally put something together, as they won six out of the last nine games. The team's troubles ranged from pure over-confidence to having one or two starters out of the lineup for a number of games. Playing time, for the most part, rested in the hands of the five starters: Deece Hannigan i15.5 gpg, 4.2 rpgi, P.j. Cosgrove i8.6 ppg, 5.6 rpgi, and lon Libman i10.5 ppg, 1.3 rpgi. Cosgrove also led the team in steals with 31, and Libman led the assists department with 67, and foul shooting percentage with a relatively low 67'V0. in fact, in many of the close games it was the team's overall foul shooting that hurt them. The team percentage was only 52 !0. Mike Rosen and lon Lewis also saw fairly substantial playing time. The highlight of the season was against Hastings when the team scored 78 points, setting a new l.V. scoring record. As for next year, the five starters on l.V. all look to either start or be in a sixth or seventh man role on next year's varsity.
