I. V.fFreshmen Volleyball The l.V. Volleyball team started out the 1977 season well. Coached by Tom Daggett, the girls learned to play with three different defensive systems and ended the season with a 5-9 record. Co-Captain Linda Sadler, Linda Peng, and Carrie Hatta were the main setters for the team. The powerful serving of Co-Captain Caryn Opengart, Renee Aubry, and Sarah Shaw also helped win many games. Luria, H. Shifrin, Coach Daggett. A new team, Freshman Volleyball emerged this year under the coaching of Tom Daggett and Gail Hildebrandt. Although the freshman girls did not hold a good record, they did learn to play a good game of volleyball. The game the girls played against Scarsdale was very close but it was never finished because they ran out of time. Amy Moskowitz was a strong server, and Heather Sherman and Margaret Fallon had fine skills all around. This team will strengthen next year's 1.V. team. xi. 5:

The girls used a 6-2 system which seemed to be successful for them. The most valuable player was senior captain Yumi Shibuy who won all-league standing for the third year. Yumi an excellent setter, spiker, and server will be missed next year. The strongest, most consistent player throughout the season was Yukari Okumura who received the coach's award. Yukari played a fine backcourt. Linda Martello and Nanette Keating added height and spiking to the team. Other fine players included Lisa Levine, jenny Fang, jennifer Osborne, who also provided great team spirit, Maddie Ablerg Ann Fichter, Dana Flynn, and Leslie Touger, the youngest member. The team managers, Luana Shapiro and Nancy Eschenbrenner, were great assets to the team. Losing only three players to graduation, next year's team should be quite strong. The 1.V. and Freshman teams are good building blocks and Coach Hildebrandt predicts an excellent season for the fall of 1978. 148

Patter- SOD. 150 The 1977 Field Hockey team, coached by Carol Miner, will not be remembered for its record but for the fine team spirit and improvement. This year was most definitely a building year for the team with the majority of the members being freshmen. The difference in final scores diminished as the season progressed and the girls ended the season playing a fine game of hockey. There were only three junior varsity games but Coach Miner hopes to have two full teams next year. The Field Hockey team will lose only two seniors to graduation: the captains Barbara Dworetzky and Brenda Barclay. Dworetzky, left wing and center, was a versatile player during the season, playing both offense and defense. Barclay, the team's goalie and two year all-league player, defended superbly. Pia Riverso has been training for goalie and will be a fine replacement next year. Most valuable player was Michelle Alpert whose aggressive play was needed throughout the season. High scorer was Eileen Bruckenthal. Other great players were Cindy Lytton, Marie Capria, Robin Husney, Ginnie Ackerman, Laura Markowitz, and Caroline Schutze.
