' ' i 1 VV xl Q Aa QQ 66444 Zfwfofzq Just two members of the 1948 Graduating Class tarted in the fir t grade to gather, Patsy Heifner and Hubert Albee Others who enrolled with Miss Hendren on Sept ll l956 were Mary Fllen Alford Betty Sproes lg Don Clements Raymond Johns Marion Shores and Lee R1ggS Betty and Marlon moved away and Lee withdrew in April Raymond moved away Our seconr year began on Maxwell Herb Stephenson fr m also came back to Fden making Lee and Lowell left us Miss the year was a circus we held 1n the school room When we entered the third grade in l958 we Don moved and were replaced by Martha Lenard and Maine entered our class Mrs Lane our teacher in the summer Sept 15, 1957 with four new memters, Jack Hite from lapel Lowell Hew on and James Boldander Lee Riggs a total of nlne in the second grade until Jan when Scotten was our teacher One of the highlights of with our mothers as guests were still seven Then James and Ed Johnson In Oct Juanita arranged a tour through James Whitcomb Riley S home 1n Greenfie d which was very interesting Mary Ellen 11th drew in Dec and Martha left our class in Jan and again we were seven In 1959 we entered grade four In Feb of that year Juanita moved and Mary Alford came back Mrs Lane was aga1n our teacher and she took us to Indianapolis for a tour We visited a fire stat1on a telephone office the Children s Museum and other places of lnterest On Sept 9 l94O six of us entered the fifth grade in Mrs Humfleet s room David Burns and Douglas Randolph Joxned our class In Sept 1941 we were in grade six Mrs Humfleet was still our teacher David had left us Alberta Norton came in Nov and was here till Feb Paul Ben nett missed out a year because of Shall became were nine in In Sept Sept James Phyllis Land Delay from Mays JOlh8d us one of us ln March our class What fun 1942 we entered Jr Ripley came into our came from Arlington and Joe Davis came from Sullivan, in Jan Jim illness so he came into our class Dallas Mar And so at the end of our Elementary School there we had the first six years of school High There were still nine of us Later class and stayed until Dec The same month Dallas and Douglas weren't with us when we entered grade eight in 1945 I Oct herald Rosing came and stayed till Nov J1m moved ln Dec to Carthage Those two years in Jr High were years to be remembered Sept 8 1944 was e great day We were GREEN FRFSHIES' Those enjoying the title were Hubert Jaca. THF CLASS OF '48 In 1936 we find Nine pupils b essed by fate, To c rry on for twelve long years The Class of '48' nd The Ne started school in state Ne ended up in Eden High, The Class of 48 Nor The Now And Our Alma Mater holds a lot Of memories and dates The fun we've had in our school years The Class of 48 Although we've had our quarrels These things we'll relegate Just recall the happy days Class of 48 never complicate shatter the composure Class of 48 when I get to heaven reach the golden gate I hope to see before me The Class of 48 p'l0l46Cy I wish I could look into the future ' I mused aloud, as I sat curled up in a chair with a book of poetry 'Rays of Sunshine' unopened on my lap The dey outside was dismal and I was restless I moved from my chair and went to the fireplace and standing with my elbows on the mantle I gazed into the mirror above it To and behold' as I stood staring at my own image, I seemed be jerked by an unseen force through the looking glass There I beheld and arc supported by two massive pillars Upon the arc were the words 'The Future Awaits Within These Gates But these things happen only in fairy tales' I shook my head to clear it but when I looked again the gates of the m rror opened and I found myself gazing at 'The Future' I was standing an the middle of a wide read There was nothing to do but follow this road, and see where it led I had walked for nearly a half mile when I came to a large white farmhouse A sign on the barn caught m gaze, Hubert Albea and Sons He was one of the most prosperous farmers in Green Township, specializing in Spotted Poland China hogs and Black Angus Cattle Down the road a bit I came to another large fanm The name on the mailbox assured me that this farm belonged to Herbert Stephenson Herb was really maklng the soil pay, from all appearances. He specialized in Chester White hogs. I traveled on down the road until I came to a city. In the business district of this city, a sign attracted my eye, 'Bennett Motor Company'. VV xl 9 AA 45 Cpr phecy continuedb building I saw and, being a woman and curious by nature I walked into the builc ing and scanned the d1P8Ct0FY posted on the wall Paul H Bennett had indeed made a success of his mechanics career He owned and operated Bennett Motor Company and was one of the most prominent business men in the city walked on for a block and a half and came to the office of the Chronicle, second largest newspaper in the United St tes On the w1ndow were the words Ruby Parker Editor-in Chief I walked upstairs to the office There was Ruby sitting at her desk, an efficient business woman and loving it rambled along and soon came to Mercy Hospital It was a beautiful building with a large lawn Strolling across the lawn toward me was Dr Robert J Davis Chief of Staff 'Joe' had put a lot of hard work and earnestness into h1s work and had built Mercy Hospital into a haven for the ill Next stop was the state university, wher tronomical Engineering Charts records and experiments were aiding science in many ways My path led me on to a large steel plant Dr Jack T Hite was head of As mathematics consumed his time His There in her own office with her name on the door, was Patsy Heifner. private secretary to the President of the plant She told me about another classmate Carroll F Foster had been in town but was now in New York City His show was running in its thirteenth week in the leading theater there He had left a trail of music in nearly all of the forty eight states After all of these previews I began to wonder what was to become of me in the future No sooner had the thought been born than I had the answer I Saw myself in the drawing room of a train speeding across t writing a book and from the conversation between myself ered that I was traveling on a speaking tour and that I three books Having thus glimpsed the future, I stood wondering hand shoved me back through the looking glass I found room I looked around and grinned rather foolishly for dreaming However, who knows? 74600646 Sfdff EDITOR in CHIEF Jack Hite EXTRA CURRICULA Patsy Heifner LITERARY EDITOR Phyllis Land he country I seemed to be and my secretary I gath had already published what was next Then the myself back in my living I was sure I had been lritten by Phyllis Land CIRCULATION MGR ADVERTISING MGR Herbert Stephenson Hubert Albea TYPING EDITOR COMPOSING EDITOR Carroll Foster Ruby Parker ATHELETIC EDITOR ART EDITOR Robert Davis Paul Bennett The members of the Junior Class were assistants in these various departments and aided in soliciting advertising, making up and selling the annuals. o, X0 ,, W2 5.
