In a recent publication I read of a man who mterested ln the act1v1t1es
concerned wxth the erectlon of an nmposmg edifice questioned the workers as
to the nature of the structure
To the first workman he said What are you mak1ng'7"
Mud answered the wo kman who was m1x1ng a batch of mortar
To a second workman he again asked What are vou mak1ng9 '
Seventy Hve cents an hour, was the grumblmg answer
Stlll wanting to know the n ture of the buxldlng he approached a third
artisan What are you makmgrw
A temp e fo th vsorshlp of C04 came the cheerful reply
Here were three outlooks on llfe the first purely memal and of o
xalue the second entlrely selhsh and contrlhutlng nothmg to mans welfare,
n y the third man had a vlslon or accompllshment that Included hrs brother
man nn lts scope nrrespectne of natlon race, color, or creed
It we ever nee e 1 clear efln te out ook on life t lb n ou
graduat s of 1948 ull be entermg the world as part of the force that must

pepped up "Stoners" then went to Chester to pull an upset, but were
defeated in the last half. The red and blue tried desperately in the closing
rninutesof the Prospect game, only to lose by one point. Undefeated Ridley
Park had its hands full the first half, but came back too strongly for the
"Stoners." Winding up the season with Ridley Township, Eddystone fought one
of its hardest and most exciting games. It ended in a nothing to nothing tie.
Post-season honors were given to guard, Gino Silvestri, by placing him
on the All Delaware County Third Team.
The graduating football stars are Harry Scott, Bob Imburgia, George
Tobin, Gino Silvestri, Felix Navickas, James Irvine, Eugene Dugan, Vince,
Castagna, Len Luniewski, Corney Dacey, John Sgavicchio, and Manager Bob
Moore.

This year, Eddystone's basketball stars began the season like a "house
afiref' They won two games with a huge score, but were smothered by a strong
alumni team. The flame did not go out, however. Taking the next five games,
they were defeated on a close one by Township.
Mr. Fryer, this year, has molded a swift-moving attack with the fast
break and the eagle-eye shooting of James Ashworth, James Warrington, and
William Matthews. Coach Fryer has installed an offensive defense. The team
has accepted this type of play and has used it to good advantage. Yes, our team
has shown a polish that Mr. Fryer had not expected to see until mid-season, at
least.
Eddystone's junior high school players are enjoying a successful season
this year. "Buzz" Powell and "Jimmy" Restucci are leading the team with
their fine shooting and defensive work. The junior high team is also familiar
with the techniques of the fast break.
Good luck to the teams in this season and the next!
