A safety added the insur-ance for the win. ECHO 7, ST. PAT'S 34 The top A-2 team in Washington rolled over the Cougars at will in the first half and coasted to an easy win. Echo's only TD was on a pass from Mike Ramos to Jerry Jackson. ECHO 13. WAITS BURG 0 With Butch Smith scoring both 6 pointers, the Cougars coasted to win No. 2. The invaders from Washington never threatened seriously. SKEET CORREA Guard Junior ECHO 19. McEWEN 6 Chuck Myers, Butch Smith, and Bob McCord tallied the necessary TD's for the margin in this one. Revenge for many years back was gained by the Class B State Co-champions. ECHO 7. PILOT ROCK 13 Darrel Horne picked up a loose ball and rambled 65 yards for the winning TD late in the 4th quartet to hand the Cougars their fourth loss. ECHO 26, HEPPNER 6 In the traditional Armistice Day game, the Cougars continued their "jinx" on the Mustangs. Butch Smith and Mike Ramos got 1 TD while Sophomore Chuck Myers got two. Jerry Jackson accounted for both PAT's on passes from Sam Ramos. Butch Smith, hard running fullback, was picked on the Shrine team for 1957, and Larry Campbell, tackle, was chosen as an alternate.STANDING: Mike Ramos (Captain) Larry Campbell, Coke Ramos, Butch Smith, Mick O’Brien, Jerry Jackson, Skeet Correa. Thursday night the Cougars tangled with the Knappa Loggers and highly publicized Bob "Pudgy" Hunt. Echo proved that five good men could beat one and soundly trounced the previously unbeated Knappa five, 72-61 . In the semi-final game the following night, the Cougars met another undefeated team in the Sisters Outlaws. Although behind eight points at halftime, we came back strong to advance to the final round, 73-60. The Elks from Elkton proved they deserved the top rating in the prep polls by swamping the Cougars, 65-40. Echo left Bend with much satisfaction; defeating two previously unbeated teams; placing four players (Mike Ramos, Jerry Jackson, Del Jordan, and Sam Ramos) in the top 20 scorers; placing 1-2-3 ’n free throwers (Mike, Sam, Jerry), and Mike Ramos being named to the All-State team. Coach Norm Bergstrom and his boys deserve all the credit in the world for certainly a successful season ending with 24 wins and only 3 losses. R, A DE PA CU LTV RACHEL JACKSON Grade i West. Wash.
