Debate Class In this studious Debate Class are Gail Madison, Janette Terry, Carol Ottum and Mr. Mahet, advisor. Senior Play The seniors gave three one-act plays this year. They are Sparkin'' written by E. P. Conkle which was a hillbilly comedy; Suppressed Desires , a sophisticated satire by Susan Claspell; Of All Things by Carter Blacksmythe, about family situations.

Beat’em Fair Beat’em Square Beat’em Echo , Beat’em! 1st Row-Manager Delbert Jordan, Larry Campbell, Glenn Rhode, Billy Lozier, Billy Correa, Dave Correa, Mike Ramos, Charles Conklin. 2nd Row-Butch Smith, Milton Mercei, Doug Maher. Donald Ottum, Lisle Young. Tom Able. Jimmy Pedro, Lanny Dorn, Dale McMinn. 3rd Row-Colin White, Russell Sloop, John Correa, Robert McCord, Martin Hibbs, Donald Smith, Allan Tolar, Henry Rees, Manager Jim Tolan. Echo's performance in the Cayuse Conference proved to be considerably less outstanding than showings of preceding years. The Cougars’ completed schedule reveals six bitter defeats. But the final game concluded with a delighted team thundering down the stairs to the Echo dressing room. They had won the coveted Armistice Day traditional trophy from Heppner. A small number of regulars graduated from the aggregation. All loyal Cougar boosters term 1953 as the building year for future grid power.
