WITH THESE HANDS... Our hands do many things, many times, many ways. In our hands we hold the whole world. We use our hands to eat, work, pray, and to help others. So as you look through the 1967 Beaver T ales, we hope to express and hope you recognize the great value of hands. The Eau Claire High School Of Eau Claire Michigan Presents The... Our last year has been filled with many experiences which we shall never forget: the joys, the sorrows, the fun, and the hard work. These are all of our memories. In the 1967 Beaver Tales we have tried to preserve for you, through pictures, these wonder- ful memories of Eau Claire High School. The 1967 Beaver Tale Staff. 6 DEDICATION ♦ ♦ ♦ 8 We wish to dedicate the 1967 Beaver Tales to Mrs. Virginia Jewell in appreciation for all of the understanding moments she has given us. All of the many times we interrupted her class room for the annual, and chased her out of her own room many times, and even out of her own desk, she never got angry once, she was always willing to help us in any way she could. For all this we wish to extend our sincere appre- ciation to you Mrs. Jewell....................... Mrs. Jewell and her husband LaVerne with their kitten McTavish. Here they relax in the yard. Virginia and LaVerne prepare for a ride. High School Building 10 Another day has ended! Buses leave for home. It has taken a long time but the American people are finally realizing that the very existance of our country and its form of government depends on our Educational system. Our national government is financing needed improvements in the academic life of our school. Our state government is increas- ing its share of school financing each year. The local citizens are aware of the increased costs of operating their schools, but they realize they must furnish its youth with the facilities so that each one can have the opportunity to develop his powers to his fullest extent. It takes the combined resources of our National, State, and Local population to give our youth its opportunity so that our country can maintain its rightful place in the world of today. SUPERINTENDENT Don K. Silcox Superintendent PRINCIPAL It is with pleasure that I congratulate the yearbook staff for their efforts in putting together this assortment of materials which mean so much to so many people. The true value will not be known for many years, for, when reviewed, fond memories of school events will be just as vivid as if they had happened yesterday. I'm sure you will remember the picture taking days, endless meetings, ad- vertising campaigns, selling drives, page set- ups, deadlines to meet, among the many other meaningful chores which had to be taken care of. I extend to all of you best wishes for a happy and prosperous future and hats off for a job well done. Sincerely, Russell L. We started out with a fairly unexperienced team and it developed into one of the strongest teams in the county. The team found out they could win big when they beat St. Joe for the first time. It was gratifying to finally see the Eau Claire teams with the attitude that we can win and we will win. I sincerely think that football is on its way up in Eau Claire and that the student and the players want it that way and will keep it that way. Coach Pessell I was proud to be a part of the men which formed the Eau Claire football team. We proved to the community that we were hardnosed gentlemen. We were the best offensive and became the best defensive team in the conference. Each team that we played, developed a respect for us during each game. We played to win with better blocking, better tackling, and more hustle. With these features, we became the best. I am only proud to be a part of the best. ROBERT W’ESNER THE CLASS OF 1967 Now we're graduated, now we're through; But just what are we going to do? What paths of life will we go down, Or up, or back, or all around? Pursuit is something we'll all try, But not to the tune of Do or Die . Some of us will go on to school. Others only jobs pursue. There's the service and the old bum, too. Just what will each one of us do? Whichever path we choose to take. We'll secretly be looking for a mate- To finish our lives, just as we planned. To go on forever; hand in hand. Yes, Graduation means good-bye, But it also means Hello. It can be a fun and joyous sigh. If we'll only do our best and try. And so until we meet again. To renew old memories..... We will save these pages to the end. And all the thoughts of them. The School Board President, Robert Koenig congratulates each graduate as he gives out the diplomas. 129 The Eau Claire High School band plays after the benediction. FINALE The New Year's Eve we did the town. The day we tore the goal posts down. We will have these moments to remember. The quiet walks, the noisy fun. The ballroom prize we almost won- We will have these moments to remember. The summer turns to winter and the present disappears. The laughter we were glad to share will echo through the years! When other nights and other days May find us gone our separate ways We will have these moments to remember. Congratulations Class of 1967! It is our wish that all of you find success, contentment and happiness, in what ever may be your chosen field of endeavor. It would be well to remember, that to achieve true happiness one must under- stand his obligation toward God and man; to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future; not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears, but to be satisfied with what we have, which is abundantly sufficient; for he that is so wants nothing. The great blessings of mankind are within us, and within our reach; all too often we shut our eyes and, like people in the dark fall foul of the very thing we search for without finding it. Tranquillity is a certain state of mind which no condition of fortune can either exalt or depress. There must be a sound mind to make a happy man; one must care for the things of this world but without anxiety; and sure an indifference to the bounties of fortune that either with them or without them he may live content. True joy is serene. . . the seat of it is within, and there is no cheerfulness like the resolution of a brave mind that has fortune under its feet. It is invincible greatness of mind not to be elevated or dejected with good or ill fortune. A wise man is content with his lot, whatever it may be—without wishing for what he has not.
