Superintendent's Message In order that our country may continue to maintain a position of leadership among nations, each and every- one of us must do everything possible to develop his po- tential capabilities to the fullest extent. It is the place of education to provide the opportunities for each individual to achieve this end; and it is the responsibility of each com- munity to provide the schools, teachers and other facilities that this education may be available to every child. May the Eau Claire Schools continue to furnish the children of this community and the surrounding area with an education that will fit them to live as responsible citi- zens in this “Atomic Age.” Alfons Wier Principals Message An education is worth every effort that it takes — not for the mere dollars and cents that it will bring, but for the power that it gives a student to get and enjoy the best things in life. Under the able guidance of our class sponsors, Mr. Dave Rose and Mr. Bob Rhinard, the following officers were chosen to manage our class: President, Chuck Marquis; Vice-President, Bruce Rakauski; Secretary, Sandy Kimball; Treas- urer, Bonnie Bardford; Reporter, Don Schlegel and Student Council Representative, Delbert Schlipp. In October we were properly initiated by the sophomores. Sixty four freshmen returned in the fall of 1956 as sophomores. This year we were sponsored by Mr. Beryl Bredon and Mr. JohnVucich. Class officers were chosen as follows: President, Don Schlegel; Vice-President, Bob Robinson; Secretary, Bruce Rakauski; Treasurer, Chuck Marquis; Reporter, Pete Korelich and Student Council Representative, Delbert Schlipp. In November we selected our class rings, and we received them soon after Christmas vacation. Our rings made us feel more at home at Eau Claire High School. Fifty nine of our classmates returned as juniors in the fall of 1957. Mr. Mark Green sponsored us for the year. Our class officers for the year were: President, Ed Robinson; Vice-President, Alvin Hassett, Secretary, Sandy Kimball; Treasurer, Bird Bielman; Reporter, LuJean Sedon and Student Council Repre- sentative, Delbert Schlipp. Shortly after school started we began planning for the prom with our prom ad- viser, Mr. Dave Rose. On April 18, die junior play cast presented The Great Scotts.” It was a big suc- cess. and we felt our director, Mr. Robert Rhinard, had much t do with it. On May 3 we honored the seniors at the prom. It took lots of hard work, but the night and day before the prom were the hardest. The theme was “Oriental Gardens,” and I’m sure it will not be soon forgotten by many of us. In the fall of 1958 fifty seven big seniors returned for their last year at Eau Claire High School. We were sponsored by Mr. TomKennedy and Miss Florence Emery. Class officers were chosen as follows: President, Seth Wagner; Vice-President, BobRobinson;Secretary,Sandy Kimball; Treasurer, Bonnie Brad- ford; Reporter, Jean Smith; and Student Council Representative, Jim Crowder. The senior play cast, under the direction of Mr. Tom Kennedy, presented a three-act comedy called, “The Professor Proposes” on the 21st and 22nd of November. Selling magazines was one of the ways we earned money to go on our senior trip. The exciting final months of our senior year included our senior prom, senior trip, and at last baccalaureate and commencement. These four years together will long be cherished in our memories. As our hours grow shorter and shorter, these memories grow dearer and dearer. We will always be grateful for all the help and advice our teachers have so willingly given to help us live up to our class motto, “Nothing succeeds like successi” CLASS COLORS: Blue and Silver CLASS FLOWER: Red Rose Senior Wills I, Beverly Beilman, will my bubble gurti to Mr. Rose. This year the council was composed of three delegates from each class and one delegate from each club. Our active Student Council sponsored several entertaining assemblies, a Christmas program, and the second annual Honor Student Award Program. The Student Council also sponsored the Homecoming Dance and the Snowflake F antasy Ball. Apart from the social functions, the Student Council each year endeavors to support a worthy charity. This year, aid was given in the form of a clothing drive to the Christian Children’s Fund Incorporated. The Student Council wishes to express its heartful thanks to its sponsor, Mr. Rex Myas, whose aid and encouragement made this year a success. Student Council President Afixed Chorus FRONT ROW: J. Tales With very few returning lettermen, Coach Rose faced the problem of building a team principally of freshman and sophomore material. We got off to a slow start by dropping the first two games to Three Oaks and St. Johns. The high- light of the season came the next game when freshman Earl Dohm pitched a four-hitter to beat Edwards- burg 9-3. However, our lack of experience and depth finally took its toll as we dropped the next four games, bringing the season to a close with a 1-6 record. of the Haseball Gam es The positions were as follows: R. Peter Korelich and Henry Miller combined their skills to score 4 of the 6 firsts, and the other 2 being scored; one by John Warsko and one by the team in the Medley relay. We started the season taking third place in die St. Joseph Ponies track meet on April 26. On April 30 we placed eighth in the Ponies track carnival and followed up with a sixth in the league track meet on May 6. A new spring sport was started at Eau Clair High School in 1958. This sport, which was golf, had enough interest and improvement shown in die first year to warrant continuing it. The team, coached by Mr. Zerbe, ended its short season with two exhibition matches against Water- vliet and Berrien Springs. Losing both matches, which were very close, the team gained experience by playing experienced teams. Last year the Golf Team learned the game, gained experience, but lost. In 1959 the team will try very hard to bring home some victories. M umm CLASS OF 1968 Gisela Adam......... , Diana Adams........... Althea Arent.......... Robert (Bud) Bartels .
