I will now anempt to turn back the hands of time to 1952. Having gotten over the trium- phant joy of receiving our Eighth grade diplomas, we had settled down to the chore of being Facetious Freshmen. Mr. Vander Geest and Miss Hokenson sponsored our class, with Bob Bailey. President; Mel Weber, Vice President; Carol Latislaw, Secretary; Jim Rosenbaum, Treas- urer; and Virginia Dillon, Reporter. As we made our entrance into our second year in high school we called ourselves the Super Sophomores having the same two sponsors again, (Mr. Vander Geest and Miss Hokenson), we were on our way with hope running high. Our officers were; Jim Rosenbaum, President; Jerry Hauch, Vice President; Carol Latislaw, Secretary; Henry Schaus, Treasurer; Phil Alexis, Student Council Rep.; Bob Rakauski and David Krieger, Reporters. Now in the year of 1955-56 we were called the Jumping Juniors. Our officers were: Sandy Beringson, President; Allana Murphy, Vice President; Barbara Alexis, Secretary; Virginia Dillon, Treasurer; Judy Briney, Rep.; Donna Russell, Student Council Rep. Our sponsors were Mrs. Ashlock and Mr. Vander Geest. As we entered our last year in high school we were known as the Stupendous Seniors. We have new sponsors this year. They are Mr. Arter and Mrs. Hubbard. Our officers for the year are; Don Pica. President; Phil Alexis, Vice President; Barbara Alexis, Secretary; Donna Schil- ling, Treasurer; Don Baiers and Bob Rakauski, Student Council Rep.; and Sandy Schadt, Reporter. Now we are at the end of our school years. We hate to leave the school and all our friends, but we must go on as all others before us have gone on. In our senior year we’ve sponsored sup- pers, dances, car washes, and just about everything we could think of to raise the money that we needed for our trip to New York. We are ready for graduation - the one thing that we have been waiting for and we are all a little sorry that it has come. Wheeler ‘Saae UC 7aCe4 t e ? z4e z£C Under the able coaching of Bob Rhinard, we got the season off to a good start by winning our first two ball games by large margins. Then we were set back twice out of the next three games. Then we came back stronger by winning our next three games and lost a non-conference game to Dowagiac by a close score. Then we picked up steam again by winning our last three games, two of which were won against Berrien Springs. We had a five and two conference rec- ord, which was good for third place. Our overall record was nine victories and three defeats. Our pitching staff was led by Bob Rakauski, who pitched a no-hitter against Stevensville along with his other fine performances. Among the top hitters were Jack Epple, class of '56 and third baseman Dan Rapp, a prom- ising sophomore. Last year's starting line-ups were; Catcher, Jim Rosenbaum; Pitcher, Bob Rakauski; First Base, Jack Epple; Second Base, Jerry Hauch; Shortstop, Philip Alexis; Third Base, Dan Rapp; Outfields, George Mitchell, Jewel Steverson, Marshall Briney, Jim Robinson. On April 28th, we met New Buffalo, Three Oaks and New Troy. Again inexperience told its tale and we came in 3rd out of four teams. May 1st our track team showed signs of improvement at the Blossom Time Relays by taking a 4th, 3rd, and a 5th in broad jump, 880 yd. relay, and a shuttle hurdle relay, respectively. On May 5th we attended the Albion relays, but as luck would have it a few boys found it impossible to attend. The boys who came gained considerable experience. At the Conference track meet on May 8th our seemingly futile practice paid off as we took 2nd out of a field of seven. We led the field most of the way but were edged out by New Buffalo in the last couple events by a slim 3| points. (46-43 ). On May 12th we attended the Regional track meet at Kalamazoo. Steverson qualified for state in the broad jump. Our last track meet of the season was the John Bos Relays at Grand Rapids in which we took a tie for 1st, two 2nd's and a 5th place.
