Krww ' ' gi Wye Ulf Klass ffisfzfry In September, 1954, thirty-seven young women entered Easton Hospital School of Nursing with anxiety and hope for fulfilling our dreams of becoming graduate nurses. Knowing this goal was three long years in the future, we lelt some uncertainty but with deterinination we were able to go on. Our first day, orientation, was filled with receiving books, meeting new friends and instructors, selecting room- mates and our Hrst lectures on the do's and dont's, curfews, lights out and study hours. affair as a class was a Our hrst social doggfe roast given in our honor by the tipperczlassinen. ln October, we had a Halloween party complete with apple cider, doughnuts and costumes. Deceinber was a busy month with a Christmas tea, caroling through the hospital, and the hospital Christmas dinner. The climax was a semi-formal Christmas dance which was held i11 the recreation room of the nurses home. Then-vacation! XfVe had two weeks to rest up for the semester to come. ,5 4 W5 1 Twelve 0 ZW r 'n HQ ,ef E ,, , ,,,,,, i I 'A :I 1: 'E' .. WN, February 27, l955 - - - capping - - - our Grst milestone toward that all-important' goal passed. This day sigtiihed transformation from preclinical uniforms into the student blue uniforms with one stripe and most important of all, the Easton Hospital nurse's cap. May 5, l955 we went on our Sociology trip to New York City. This was a big day and for many the first time to the big city. , Spring and summer passed quickly with the end ol study hour, introduction to longer hours on duty and - - - swing shift. September, 1955 came and we added another stripe, thus passing another milestone. Now we had gained im- portance as intermediates. 0 Thirteen VVatching the new class come in reminded us of our first big day. As intermediates we were well on our way in specialties such as Diet Kitchen, Operating Room, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Isolation, Receiving VVard, and alhlia- tion. We had now gained the two twelve o'c1ock permissions a week and classes were fewer and harder. Fund-raising projects such as spaghetti suppers, bake sales, selling of candy, chances, sweat shirts and peanuts kept us busy off duty. june, 1956 came with thc departure of the hrst six girls in our class to Phila- delphia State I-Iospital for psychiatric alliliation. The months went by rapidly for those girls and soon we were saying good-by to the second group. mmm ! , sf ' v ..g,g,, ..,,. , Fourteen , O sz 'sf September, l95fi we added our third stripe. At last we are seniors! Another big milestone was passed. Classes were still fewer and responsi- bilities were more. Throughout the year our social activities continued and would be remem- bered as our last as student nurses. XfVe had teas, dances, doggie roasts, birthday parties and after-hour bull-sessions. The winter months passed by quickly and soon we fared our long-awaited graduation week. This was our last big milestone and many tears ol' happiness were shed. Some ol' the tears were those ol' sadness with the prospect ol' leaving our many friends and classmates. In rapid succession the days llew by: 0 Fiftcmz 'll Al SUNDAY, MAY 12 - Baccalaureate Services. First Reformed Church. MONDAY, MAY 13 -Graduate Staff Dinner. Cascade Lodge. TUESDAY, MAY 111 -School Committee Buffet. Pomfret Club. YVEDNESDAY, MAY 15-Easton Hospital Dinner Dance. Country Club of Northampton County. THURSDAY, MAY 16-Homecoming and Supper. Recreation room of the nurses home. Commencement, Wfilson High School. Reception, Recreation room ol the nurses home. SiNll?f'1l 0 FRIDAY, MAY I7 - Euston Hospital Alumnae Banquet, Hotel Easton. Now we added something new to our uniforms-our school pin which brought us closer to the end of our three years of experience, studies and hzlrcl work. As summer passes by, we will receive our graduate assignments. On August Slst, we will step into the world as prolfessional nurses wearing our white uni- forms. Thfs is the Gnal milestone toward our goal which began that September day in 1954.
