THE SILVER PACK
OE
1950
Eastern New Mexico University
Portales
FOREWORD
We have tried to bring to you on the following pages
pictures of you, your friends, and your faculty in the many
phases of life connected with Eastern New Mexico Uni-
versity, so that you may have a permanent record of your
years here.
The staff and I have earnestly tried to give you what
you wanted in the 1950 Silver Pack. We have tried to give
you more pictures and have attempted a change from the
ordinary. If you are pleased, we have succeeded.

This was Eastern New Mexico University when it opened in 1934.
It,s the nucleus around which the University, now sixteen years old,
was built. The picture is a view of the Administration Building from
the southwest. About one-third the size of the present Administration
Building, it housed the entire college. From this small beginning, the
University has grown to an educational plant valued at four million
dollars.
Dormitories were non-existent and students had to find rooms in
Portales. Social events took place in Portales or Clovis, for a student
union building was a pipedream of the students.
Look at this picture. Now turn back and look at the preceding
pages. Above is Eastern New Mexico junior College in 1934 . . . On
the preceding pages you see Eastern New Mexico University in 1950

LEADERS' RETREAT AT CGWLE

ka.,
Spring, 1949, found campus student leaders, University administrators, and faculty members high in the mountains of
New Mexico. Here the group discussed campus affairs in a relaxing atmosphere, played in the sunshine, and cut up in
general. Out of this mixture of fun and work came several excellent suggestions which the administration saw tit to incor-
porate into the program of the University.

PROMISE OF GOOD THINGS TO COME
In the cycle of the year, spring, with all its blossoms, brings
recurrent promise of good things to come.
Likewise, in the long procession of the years, each new
graduating class brings its own bright promise of
new achievement . . . its own high assurance of truer,
more inspired leadership.
An achievement and a leadership which, we are
convinced, will each year play a greater and a more
significant role in the progress of the great State of
New Mexico and of the nation.
On behalf of one of New Mexico's leading industries,
we are honored to salute the graduating class of
Eastern New Mexico University n .. I ,L
