THE CHALLENGE OF THE 80s The end of this academic year completes six decades for Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy Massachusetts There are only few persons now Irving who witnessed the move from North Scituate Rhode Island to Quincy President Fred Shields gave several reasons for choosing the Ourncy locatrom outstanding educational and cultural advantages resourceful public and university libraries and ample opportunities for student employment Hindsight has proven the soundness of President Shield s analysis Many changes resulted from the move changes rn facilities changes in programs and changes in personnel However there was no change in the committment of the school to Jesus Chnst There were a number of individuals who dedicated the major part of their lives and strength to Eastern Nazarene College. We owe a great debt to these faithful servants. ENC is concerned with the intellectual. social and spiritual development of the youth of our educational zone. In a real sense. we ha ve a strong academic college with a qualified faculty and capable students. However. opportunities we enjoy are not without cost. We ha ve dedicated people giving the best of their lives and energies to the advancement of ENC. After sixty years, we are still committed to Jesus Christ and the advancement of his kingdom. We are just entering the decade of the '80s. The past is a prologue to the future. We have a good heritage, a loyal constituency, and a valid purpose for the future. During the next ten years, ENC will be challenged in every way possible - in finances. enrollment. social and secular pressures. and still other ways unknown to us. In the '80s we desparately need the qualities of our past leaders -- a sense of mission, vision. faith and dedication. The CHALLENGE OF THE '80s is to Hnd dedicated Christian teachers, administrators, students and supporters who are willing to give their best to the cause of Christian higher education. The responsibility now shifts to you, the graduates of the '80s. ENC needs your resources -- your intellect, devotion, time, service and committment to maintain her spiritual and academic traditions. Will you accept this challenge? . President Donald Irwin 22,5-Y ,nw Z 7 '14s- QM K' 'Q ' E235 M.Div.. Asbury Theological Seminaryf D.D.. Asbury The ological Seminary.
