President Eugene B. Elliott The annual publication of the Aurora is one of our finest traditions. Not only is it a tradition, but through its pages it catches the life and spirit of the campus. It portrays many happy occasions and preserves for the future, moments that are fraught with dramatic emotionalism. I salute the 1959 graduating class and wish you well in your individual undertakings. You are well prepared to meet the challenges of life, although the biggest challenge is to keep prepared. We are living in a fast moving world that calls upon the individual for continuous top-flight performance. This can be achieved only through constant study and effort. But no achievement is worthy unless it benefits mankind. Public colleges are supported largely at public expense, because society needs the services of highly educated people to carry out its complicated tasks and provide creative motivation for progress. While the graduates of all colleges owe society much, it is especially incumbent upon the graduate of the public college to fulfill his responsibility to those who have done so much to provide him with an opportunity for education. The service ideal for the college graduate carries rich rewards in terms of lasting satisfactions. WMM , 7
