E761 At the beginning of the 1952 fall term, the Eastern High School band, under the direction of Walter Jenvey, went on a trip to New Orleans to the Grand Encampment of the Knight Templars, where they were the only band from north of the Mason-Dixon Line. In December the band held a dance in honor of the Queen, Pat Whiteside, and her court. After returning from the Christmas holidays, the band gave a concert January 8 and a spring concert on March 6. Both popular and semi- classical music were featured. The music director, Mr. Mclntire, and Mrs. Eva Schell, director of dramatics, spend many long hours in creating a successful production. E783 Mr. Mclntire, head of the vocal department at Eastern, has charge of an annual operetta in December and a vocal concert in the spring. The oper- etta this year was Blossom Time with Dick Deason, Erlene Otto, Gene Miller, and Dorothea Phelps in major roles. Usually at Christmas, Easter, and other religious holidays the choir gives a special program for the school assemblies. The Madrigal Choir sings for many clubs and organizations outside of school. They are called upon most often to sing such selections as the Messiah and The Seven Last Words of Christ. This spring the group plans on taking a trip to New York City.
