Throughout our school years, blackboards, the most obvious means of visual education, have outlined our courses and activi- ties. A few simple strokes of chalk have revealed to us the solution of a puzzling algebraic equation, the theory of a musical fragment, or the duties of the tackles in a complex football play. At the opening of a semester, the teacher's name, the text book used, and the dues to be paid in the course are sure to be found on the blackboard. Yes, chalk talks have been important in many ways. Candy-sale notices, class projects and assignments, tests, directions for taking the correct stairway during a Fire drill, and study guides appear daily on our boards. Then, too, they are often used for other than constructive work. Humorous drawings have appeared during the teacher's absence only to be quickly obliterated by a fast-moving eraser at the first sound of the returning faculty member. Since the blackboard has served such varied purposes during our years in high school, it is fitting that we use it as a symbol in our yearbook. Here, it will not be erased but will be a perma- nent record of our activities at Eastern High School. l2l
