Bowling Bowling team captains, Vertia Wood, Billie Cramer, Sue Brock, Janet Davis, Betty Smith, and Carol Steadman check the score sheet to see the high scores that have been made throughout the games of the day. The girls in the Bowling League bowl every Wednesday. Debbie McKeel's team mates watch in silent admiration as she prepares to throw the bowling ball swiftly and smoothly. Surely nothing less than a strike could result from all the determination pictured on Debbie's face. Bowl- ing is an optional sport in the curriculum of girls' sports. It is not a regular activity of either gym classes or Girls' Ath- letic Association. Jackie Randall, Phyllis Sidoti, Louann Whitcomb, Betty Plowman, Joan Hanes, and Margaret Stevenson, the rest of the bowling captains in the league, examine the ball in preparation for their games that they will soon begin. HMC! Ream Secretary Marilyn Smith, president Marie Terranova, and treasurer Carol Steadman clean a bowling ball as they very seriously discuss their efficient organization, the Girls' Bowling League. The girls do their best to keep the League functioning smoothly.

ef, ' Cheerleading is an essential part of Eastern's sports program. Mary Hefty and Darlyn Smith carry out their version of the yell Come on, team, fight, which is known to every sports fan in Eastern. Girls' Sports Throughout the fall season, girls look forward to basketball, a winter sport, which is a favorite of all. In the background, JoAnne Alexander, Sandra Schaible, and Joylyn Kennedy scramble madly for the ball. Pat Tavenner, Anna Lou Stevens, Nancy DeWilde, and Gloria McKay in the foreground also Fight to recover the ball as it bounces from the backboard after a wild shot for a basket. Eight girls make up the feminine half of the cheerleading team. Bar- bara Stone and Pat Tavenner are demonstrating the familiar yell Left and Right. 1 Fl. , Volleyball, a game played in all seasons, is a favorite activity of G.A.A. and also of the gym classes. Because the classes are so large, they are divided into three or four groups, giving everyone a chance to participate. The blowing of referees' whistles and the yelling of the girls deafen the spectators but not the team members, Nadine Tyler, Betty Shepler, Darlene Dietz, and Maureen Hammond, who eagerly await the return of the ball that they have just served to the opposite side. l:119fI
