BASKETBALL Eastern High cagers, under the captaincy of Chuck Stachel, finished the season second in the 5-A with a league record of 5 wins and 3 losses and a season's record of 8 wins and 5 losses. This, however, does not tell the true story of the past season. After a mediocre Hrst semester, the fighting Quakers staged a roaring comeback and won Five straight, led by the back board work of Dick Boline and Bill Healey, the Hoor work of Chuck Stachel, and the scoring of Roy Land and Bruce Munger. During the first semes- ter, Eastern's basketeers lost two successive games with Jackson and Sexton, but, with the return match, Eastern conquered both schools with scores of 38 to 34 and 45 to 34, respectively. Q , SWIMMING Eastern's swimmers compiled the best record in the history of our school. Under the coaching of Fred Stillman, a former Battle Creek coach, the splashing Quakers ended the season with a record of 10 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie. Special acknowledg- ment should be given to Dave Norman and Bruce Aldrich, who placed Hrst and second, respectively, in the state finals. A few of the remaining point getters were Noah Can- field, Bryce Evans, Bill Turney, Dick Hewitt, and Glen Kribs. All of the above will be back next season, fighting to gain the title of State Champions. Lynn Munroe, a three-season man, became team captain with a majority vote from some 30 aquatic men.
