VICTORY HONOR WOULD BE IN EASTERN Howe. Robert Hurrell. George NOW .adjw , M... P Hutchins. Robert Kent, George Longyear. Richard Marion. Russell Martin. Edward Mate, Robert Merritt, Richard Morgan. Robert Ryan, Loyal Shafer. Harvey Shattuck. James Siegel. Keith Silvey. Clarence Skidmore, jack Smith, Louis Stanbough, Erwin Swick, james f. . F Military train- ing was inaugur- ated in Eastern soon after the Pearl Harbor at- tack. It is spon- sored by Mr. Winston and Mr. Altenhof, gym in- structors. The . officers are chosen from the ranks of the boys. The fel- lows are taught the fundamental military prin- ciples and are thus better suited to enter the arm- ed forces. Filling part of a huge government order for accurate scale models of the fighting planes of the world are the boys in the picture, who are advised by Mr. Flory. The planes are to be used by the navy in training ground and air personnel. Certificates of recognition are award- ed the builders by the Bureau of Aeronautics of the Navy Department upon completion of the models. In this way the boys are doing a great deal to help the United States carry the war to ultimate victory. Mr. Van Liere is pointing with a gloating finger to the top of the magazine campaign thermometer-perhaps he is contemplating the help that the hundred dollars sent from the profits of the campaign for a bomber will be in the United States war effort. Mr. Van Liere is our chief air raid warden and has been very active in the defense activities of the school. At the left are the notables of the magazine campaign: crouching Paul Corey and Donna Clark. highest boy and girl salesmen: stand- ing. left to right. Mr. Edwards. instructor of the auto shop group which took top honors: Mr. joe Shields. representative of the Crowell-Collier Publishing Company: Mr. Rich. principal: Mr. Peterman. business manager of the campaign.
