President--Budd Smith, Vice-President-Edward Skidmore, Secretary-Kathleen Faraone, Treasurer-Helen Jackson, Adviser-Mr. Schneider. In the fall of 1937, a large group of expectant new-comer extras were given screen tests, in order to determine their status in the film producing metropolis of Eastern. On September 6 the girls held a tea and were intro- duced to many important, well es- tablished seniors in the business. Anxiously awaiting the results this hopeful group held a party, the Sophomore Mixer, February 18, 1938, in order to relieve the tension and get acquainted. They were all successful in hurdling the first obstacles and were given a short-term contract. Extensive training then was given these potential featured players. They were given vocational guidance, and showed themselves very pro- gressive and willing to work in order to climb to the top. They became active in the G.A.A., Girls League, Drama, Debating, i' STARS SENIOR CLASS '40 Music, and other departments of the industry. Mr. Schneider, prom- inent director, becoming inter- ested in this promising group, took over the adviser's task. Forging ahead, they overshadowed many in the academy honor roll awards. In the fall of 1938, the girls demon- strated their ability as entertain- ers and business managers through their party, Spook Serenade. Proving their capability, these starlets were offered a long term contract with Eastern, and all gladly signed, having become suc- cessful featured players already. Celebrating their insured future they held their rolicking J-Hop, March 25, 1939, Cowboy from Brooklyn. Their colossal pro- duction was Spring Dance a dramatic miracle. Having reached their heights of stardom, they tri- umphed at their Senior Prom Roseland Ball, June 1, 1940 and Page Ten announced their intentions of leav- ing Eastern Studios, to forge on to bigger and better things. Many farewell parties were given, in- cluding the Senior Breakfast and Banquet. Surely these ingenuous members of Eastern studios will shine in stardom in other fields of endeavor.
