Charles Pete-rman, President, Marshall Burgess, Vice-President, Betty Mae Earley, Secretary, Evelyn Schlack, Girls' Athletic Director, Mary Jones, Treasurer. l l I SeniorA Class Officers TAKING OFF! We, the June class of l937, came out onto the field to begin our ground training under the master guidance of Mr. Chadwick. Our first record holder was Betty Mae Earley, who was elected president of the crew, At first we did a great deal of blind flying, but when we were welcomed into the great hangar at the Sophomore Mixer, the visibility grew clearer. We, in turn, as Sophomore A's, played hosts and hostesses to the incoming amateur pilots. CLIMBING! Every day was a flying day, and so we climbed higher into the second year of training at Eastern High School with the hopes of some day becoming veteran pilots, Jack Earley was the first Junior Birdman to go up as president of the class. Our amphibian pilot, l-larry l-lelman, won his way to victory in the water, and Bill l-lorn did the cross-country flying. Ed Shelburg and Bob Saunders climbed high in foot- ball and basketball, and Bob Dixon and Jack Maclnness swung the rockets. On the evening of March l4 we locked the planes in the hangar and joined Charles Peterman at the J-l-lop, Court Royale, dancing to the captivating rhythm of Ray Vickerstaff's orchestra. CRUISING! With a high ceiling and sunny weather we launched into the last few hours of training, Again our Ace Pilot, Jack Earley, stepped forward with the highest honor as Student Council President, and Marie l-lollander held the women's record as the Girls' League President. Annabelle Vincent and Burdette Bottom, the twin motor pilots, presented some very fine stunting in the Broadway hit, Smilin' Through, From among our midst l-lelen Williams winged her way to the highest altitude record as a star in the musical comedy, l-lollywood Bound. Still cruising along we made Albert l-lays chairman of our Senior Prom held on May l5, Donning our caps and gowns, we had our last opportunity to do a bit of barnstorming on Senior Day and at the Senior Program with Christine l-lorn behind the stick, On June l7 we received our diplomas as master airmen.
